Amused over an argument used in their debate are seniors Bill Murray and Iackie Frazier. Debate Team Wins in Many Carefully inspecting some of the new equipment and being shown its proper useage to a couple of very interested Forensic students is Mr. Lawrence Sunberg, sponsor. Tournaments Central High debate team finished their most successful completion in 15 years, with a 17 man team. They com- piled 97 wins against 65 loses in a rec- ord score of 162 rounds of competi- tion. The best win lose recorded of 26-4 went to senior jackie Frazier. The de- bate team scored a first place victory in the first Bay County debate Champion- ship. They scored third place in the novice division scoring 3 out of 23. The junior Varsity team scored fourth place at the same tournament out of 25 teams. They took seventh place out of 52 teams in the Gold Cup Debate Invi- tational at U. of M. For the first time, the debaters successfully advanced from district competition and partici- pated in the Michigan High School Forensics Association regionals Febru- ary twelvth. District winners were Bill Murray and Sara C-oddeynne on the affirmative and Sophomore jeff Mono and jackie Frazier on the negative. Using the photograph enlarger in his Photojour- nalism class is Senior, Paul Shyposki. mmunication Introduction to journalism is a sur- vey of the field of journalism with emphasis on writing techniques. The course is designed to promote proper news reading habits, teach techniques in journalistic writing, study the pur- pose and preparation of advertising, the mechanics of layout and typogra- phy and teach the history of the print- ing press. Photojournalism gives an introduc- tion to the basic principles of photog- raphy as a medium of journalistic communication. Students will be taught the principles and the use of various kinds of photographic equip- ment, darkroom techniques, picture composition, picture selection and graphic ommunication. Teaching Introduction To journalism for the first time this year is Mrs. Lois Honsowetz. Mr. Donald Baker, photojournalism teacher, taught photojournalism for the first time this year. Students taking Introduction To journalism or Photojournalism usually go on to the Bi-Weekly newspaper staff or elect to work on the staff or gain in- sights to journalistic careers. 26! academics
