Explaining the im ortance of leasin to DE Prac- P 8 tice students is Mr. Duch, Co-Op director. 76facademics Co-Op Students Learn More Distributive Education Co-Op, Trade and Industrial Co-Op and Business Co- Op students work part of the school day under competent supervision in places of business. The experiences gained outside of class is more valuable than the student gains in the classroom. D.E. Practice is a full year course for 12th grade Distributive Education Co- Op students only. The main purpose is to offer a related course covering spe- cific area of work in the distributive occupations with special emphasis on the various functions performed such as buying and sales promotion. A spe- cific objective is to establish a correla- tion between classroom instruction and work on the job. Office Practice is a polishing course for business co-op students. Good of- fice techniques and the use of business machines are taught. Examining a Christmas Club account with a co worker is Crystal Byas from Business Co-Op.

l Learning to operate the computer calculator are Seniors Cindy Kazmierski and Enedina Aguirre. Helping Sheryl Young transcribe her notes is Transcription teacher Miss Betty MacDonald. Students Can Advance in Business Dept. Central's Business Department re- mained basically the same. Personal typing was offered both semesters and the students had an opportunity to choose whether they wanted to re- ceive a grade or only the mark of CR or NC. Either, if successfully completed by the student, gave credit. Advanced classes were also offered. Shorthand developed skills of stu- dents in the reading and writing of shorthand and taking dictation. The students taking advanced classes spent most of their time building speed and putting all the principles learned into practice. Once the student had adva- anced enough Transcription taught students how to take dictated notes and transcribe them accurately into mailable copy. Business Machines, necessary in solving problems in the work world, gave students a chance to learn to use a variety of adding and calculating ma- chines. lf a student elected Data Pro- cessing it was a one semester course introducing students to that field. It includes the Computer System, con- cepts and language, key punch and cards and flow charting.
