Language Department A concentrated study of a foreign language is worthwhile for many rea- sons. The study habits developed are good for mental discipline and memory exercise. Learning the processes of speech from a foreign country is quite important for the eventual understand- ing of the processes of thought of this people. Proficiency in a foreign language is required for many occupations which are growing in popularity today: foreign serviceg exchange teachingg some engi- neering positions, etc. And, equally im- portant, there is little which contributes more to the broadening of character in a student than the ability to read and speak a language other than his own. Ho Mrs. Purgraski demonstrates Hower arranging as a facet of I-Iomemaking Years ago, the Homemaking Depart- ment concentrated almost entirely upon sewing and cooking. But today, because of the changing times, a girl can study interior decoration, child care, consumer buying, grooming and personality, figure control, handi-crafts, dietetics, home and family living-and cover cooking and sewing thoroughly, too. Because the average girl becomes a wife and mother eventually, and because many mothers carry outside jobs leav- ing home responsibility to their daugh- ters, the Homemaking Department be- lieves that its course is beneficial to any girl regardless of her academic plans.
