Second row: Harry Borucki, Anita Neumeyer. The highest honor which a student may receive at Central is election to Agathos, Bay City chapter of the National Honor Society for high school students. Miss Mathilda Schroeder, head of the English department of the Bay City schools, organized the local chapter in 1924. The objectives of the society are Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. The keystone and torch are the emblem of the organization's purpose. Now sponsored by Miss Nelda Taylor, Agathos represents the funda- mental principles for which schools are instituted and gives recognition to those who have most nearly attained perfection. Graduating Seniors only are eligible to membership and at the time this book went to press members of the June graduating class had not been selected for Agathos membership. Laying out the dummy of the yearbook, mounting snapshots and Senior pictures, and arranging group and individual pictures, While at the same time visualizing the completed book, is the work of the Art Staff. Upon this staff rests a large part of the responsibility of the finished production, for the ideas of the editorial staff and the budget set by iff the business staff must be kept con- stantly in view. The high school training of many an able art student is revealed in this import- ant phase of yearbook production. Preparing and editing all copy for the yearbook is the work of the editorial staff. Members of this group learn to recognize the importance of placing the right name with the right face and to discriminate between what is and what is not essential for clarifi- cation. Although the trend of yearbooks is toward pictorial rather t than written material, the editorial l staff is responsible for the running story which results in the conti- nuity of subject matter in a pic- torial production. Miss Harris is the editorial adviser. Cenfraga uziinezizi Charles Doan John D Anderso , Donald DeFrain, Art Meir. John C ats J k 'lh mas ar Hufnagel, Harold Kleinert, Homer Nichols. The business staff of the yearbook has the task of planning a budget which will enable the art and editorial staffs to produce a book which will meet high standards. The business staff keeps the slogan, We must keep within our budget, before the art and editorial staffs. Subscriptions are solicited by this staff, adver- tising is promoted and sold, and circulation is planned and carried out. Practical and real is the business experience gained in this work. Mr. Warner is the business adviser of the year- book. Ctnudfg 6155 John Bartell, Verlyn Vincent, Betty LaForest, William Flaskamp, June Walraven, Helen Miller, Alvin Sprague, Henrietta Spinner. Center: Marian Marshall, Tom Tabor. Robert Hinson and Marian Marshall Death Takes a Holiday was the play spon- sored by the January graduating class and pre- sented in Central's auditorium January 13. The play, written by Alberto Casella, was outstand- ing because of its weird atmosphere. This atmosphere was created by the very theme of the play, the cast which numbered thirteen characters, and the presentation date, Friday, the thirteenth. The near-professional acting of the cast gave a capacity audience proof of the value of dramatic production. William Flaskamp, Verlyn Vincent, June Walraven, Marian Marshall Robert Hinson, Frank Tyler, Tom Tabor. C Lille KKCLZM Ed Cederberg, Betty Wilson, Don VanHaaren, Josephine Wright, Olive Gitchell, Henrietta Spinner Robert Schneideman, Wight Cooke, Tom Tabor. 1 The June graduating class chose Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder, as the all-school play to be presented May 2 in Central's auditorium. This play, like the January play, has many out- standing features since it is presented to prove that drama can be appreciated even without the use of scenery and properties. This is the most ambitious production ever to be attempted by a Central cast. - Funeral scene taken during rehearsals of Our Town. Central student is not concluded within these pages but continues with the student's entrance into active citizenship in a great country. The foundation for what students make of themselves has been firmly laid and, as they carry on, the influence of Central days will be revealed. Well-prepared, these students will meet the requirements of the citizens of tomorrow. -x44444444 Wifh Complimenfs and Besf Wishes from fhe following Boy City Retail Clothing Stores SQ Ford's E. J.
