They arrived in At- lanta and attended a party for members of all bands in the Sheraton Biltmore Hotel in downtown Atlanta. The next day, they played in the Six Flags competition concert contest. They received a rating of III. After spending several fun hours in Six Flags Over Georgia, they returned to their motel for a pool party. Saturday, they roamed around Underground Atlanta. Tired but happy, the CHS Band returned home. The CHS Band members chose Outstanding Band Members at the close of the school year. Those chosen were Greg Mills- seniorg Joe Pettigrew-juniorg Terry Worleyesophomore. They are pictured with the trophies the bands won during the year. I i , We were proud of our Girl's team, too! Greg Mills and Pam Jackson, recipients of the Arron Award are pictured with Dr. Jared Spears, guest conductor for the spring band concert. State Band Winners ,F AiW Graduation On Thursday, May 27, 208 Seniors marched down the aisle to receive their rewards for twelve years of study and concentrated effort. ln spite of the regrets felt as this chapter of their lives drew to a close, there was an atmo- sphere of anticipation in view of their promising futures., Central has given them much, including many wonderful memories, as well as an adequate education. Thus, the class of 7l graduated from Central High School and entered a new phase of their lives. ll ,li . ,W M-'wayvu ixvgvmm . Prelude Rotary Book Award . . .... Coach Marvin Williams' basketball boys ended their season in the Sub-State Tournament and the girl's team finished third in the Regional Tournament. The CHS Golf Team finished another successful season with a record of 13-1. The team played a few more matches than usual this season and confronted some new teams: Dyersburg, Union City, and South Fulton. This year's team was composed of only four players: Joe Swingle, Sam Stal- lings, Gary Smith, Joe Pettigrew, and a very successful coach, Gary Sadlak. Q 5. fa. at Y S 5. r , . , yfi 223213 .WW . He is well-known for his honesty, sincerity, and especially his ability to blush. Although he could not achieve his one great goal in life fmarrying Scarlett O'Haraj, he compensated by becom- ing an excellent history teacher. Each year he is sponsor of the Student Council. The Centraleer staff would also like to thank him for preparing the advertising section of the annu- al each year. We are proud to dedicate this 1970-71 Cen- traleer to: Robert H. SENIOR CLASS SPONSORS: Rebecca Vaughan, Carolyn Cary, Gaston Andrews. Although this past year was different for us all, it was still the best for the Se- niors. We missed tlre assemblies, talent shows, and banquets, but in their place we found something much better than all of those put together. We were able to make lasting friendships that will continue through the years, and we learned how foolish it was to have prej- udice. As the largest graduating class Central has ever had, we adjusted quickly to the changes and made the most of them. Class Sponsors: Mrs. Mercer, Mr. Mitchell, Miss Willis. We returned to Central this year again the youngest but not the greenest. Our class has grown and so has our spirit. Feeling more at home, we are truly becoming a part of Central. In schoolwork and extracur- ricular activities the Sophomores have eagerly given spirit and support. The purpose of the club is to ac- quaint students who might be interested in the teaching profession with the high ideals, duties, responsibilities, and privi- leges of a teacher. Membership is open to any student who is interested in exploring teaching as a career and who has the high quali- ties of character, scholarship, and lead- ership essential to a good teacher. A grade average of 2.5 is necessary to maintain membership. President-Vicki Rush Secretary-Ruth Robertson Treasurer-Johnny Wheeler Reporter-Linda O'Guin Sgt.-at-Arms-Steve Hornsby claim Hmm The value one receives from football is some- thing one seldom receives from other experi- ences. Football leaves its mark physically, as well as morally. The difference between the good and the great is the voluntary willingness to make the extra effort that is not demanded by the coach or society-that little extra which comes from within oneself which is instilled on the football field. It is a classroom without walls and the players are tested each Friday night. Each player has the benefits of rigorous exercise and physical discipline. He learns the importance of winning, the importance of giv- ing a hundred and twenty percent and the value of striving for excellence. He receives the cour- age to face 1ife's problems and to weather the storms. These to every individual are important ingredients along with a deep faith in God. It is hoped that each athlete at Central High School will be able to capture these values. Bob Newell Science 61146 The purpose of the Science Club is to create interest in the practical application of science by presenting speakers who use the different sciences in their occupations.
