Physical, social, and educa- tional changes have contributed to the learning atmo- sphere of the school. In the fall of the year, returning students noticed the improvements made throughout the school. The remodeling of the buildin was the most obvious dif- ference. Changes such as tiis all added to the learning process of education. ' As the year progressed, social changes were also evident. Students witnessed differences in the rela- tionships among themselves and with the faculty. Be- cause of the definite need for educational improve- ments, policy and curriculum changes were intro- duced. These new operations added to the fulfillment of a complete education. The changes that took place at Central High School were steps in preparing students for the prob- lems they will incounter in their future lives. Among those duties were the preparations for the Homecoming and Sno Daze activities. They chose Debbie Hoffman as President, J eff J anish and Charles Frelix as Vice-Presidents, Denise Chamblee as Secre- tary, and Lettie Finney as Treasurer. In March, the seniors went on their long awaited annual class trip. They flew by jet to New York and were bussed to VVashington. Everyone who went agreed that it was a worthwhile trip and an unforget- table experience. ln May, the seniors were the guests ofhonor at the Junior-Senior Prom. Later that month was a planned picnic for all seniors called uSenior Day? Their final farewell to their high school days at Central was graduation day. Parents, faculty, and friends came to the St. Paul Auditorium to View the ceremony. Lead roles were played by Jim Roerig, Galen Carlson, Greg Ritter, Alena Poland, and Shon North. The entire two-act play took place in a wes- tern state one summer day in a time of drought. After several hot, dry days, the townspeople decid- ed to brighten things up with a picnic. During the meal a stranger, Starbuck the Rainmaker, arrived on the scene with the promise of bringing rain for a price. While some people immediately rejoiced, others took him as a fraud. Lizzie Curry, one of the first to dismiss Starbuck as a fake, later fell in love with him. To complicate things, File, the Sheriff, also fell in love with Lizzie, the once plain and un- noticed girl. That evening File decided to arrest the swindler, Starbuck, if he did not leave the state. Starbuck begged Lizzie to leave with him but she finally decided to settle down with File. Centralis Gymnastic team had an excellent record this year, losing only its first meet with Johnson. Good concentrated effort from the small squad made the rest of the season successful. The gymnasts had a sweet revenge as they took the Region Championship by heating Johnson. This was accomplished through good team effort and the outstanding performance of Glenn Taylor, who Won five title crowns. Glenn, along with Brian Morris, Kurt Buetovv, Ralph Tuttle, and Steve Kolar represented Central in the State Tourna- 1'I'1C1'1t. A great deal of enthusiasm was not shown because ofthe need for part time jobs. Those that participated did exert a good effort in trying to make the season successful. The most exciting game for both the team and spectators was the play off game between Mechanic Arts and Cen- tral that ended in a loss after overtime. The most dis- appointing game of the season was due to the close score between Highland Park and Central. Ron Ander- son contributed the most to the team by playing the most in each game. Next year the team should be aided by Duane Nelson. Walter Engelhardt, Steve Anderson John Art. Allan Anderson, Jerry Peller, Ken Colaizy, jim Lockwood. Steve Radke, and Don DeVange. Steve Anderson watches a hockey match with a look of anticipation as he waits for Central to score. Perhaps the weather can also be blamed for the team's unsuccessful season losing 12 games. Though players such as Art John and Dave Kensler put forth much ef- fort. the team never seemed to be quite victorious.
