The Class of i959 is being graduated at a time when education has become our first line of national defense. The emphasis has been especially heavy in the areas of science and mathematics. An exciting future awaits you as man continues to make gains in his abilitiy to control his environment. As you seek to serve your community as an active citizen, do not let the obiectivity of the scientific age overshadow other important values: concern for the less fortunate, exercise of humility, dignity and worth of the individual, devotion to religion, appreciation of the finer things, respect for learning. The cool calculation of science will aid man in his survival in space only if the warmth of man's concern for man will permit him to survive on the earth. The Class of 1959 must and will pioneer on these frontiers. KENNETH A. BERG Assistant Principal As graduating seniors, you would probably like to know a little more about the school in which you have spent the last four years. The present structure was erected in l9lO. However, the original Central High School was built in l833 at Tenth and Minnesota Streets. At present Central has 66 classrooms plus the gymnasium, study hall, audi- torium, offices, library, and cafeteria. lt is supervised by a total of 88 teachers and kept in working condition by 25 people on the custodial and cafeterial staff. ln addition to our administrative staff, which consists of Mr. Lackner, Mr. Berg, and myself, we have three efficient office workers and four counselors who are always willing to help students with their problems. But the most important part of Central is the student body and especially you, the graduating class of l959. PHILIP O. CARLSON Assistant Principal li ! t 1 MR. KENNETH BERG Assistant Principal MR. We hope that you will place among these memories the heartiest wishes for success from the Central High School faculty. Your graduating class represents a new surge of life, a new confidence, and a new hope for the future which all of us sorely need. Your very inexperience is a blessing in disguise inasmuch as the old problems which have been plaguing all of us will become iust normal, new ones for you. It is my earnest hope that Central High School has been able to reinforce this wonderful vitality of yours with insight and understanding. J. T. LACKNER Principal
