MR. E. E. LENANDER, Principal A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL The peoples of the world move on-forward, not backward. lt has always been thus. Progress is positive. lt leaves thoughts in the minds of men and places tools in their hands. Retreat is negative, always subtracting and contributing nothing. There is only one direc- tion for civilization to move. She cannot remain still, she cannot retreat, she must move ever on and upward. To the student this should be meaningful. ln it is an assurance that his contribution will count and be added to the total for good. We are prone to become impatient when results are not immediately apparent. Remember, our thirteen colonies argued for thirteen long years before our nation was born. Peoples hoped and fought be- fore the League of Nations came into being. Shortcomings of the League caused the world again to be mobilized on battlefields. As the din of battles stilled, the hopes of the world brightened with the formation of the United Nations determined to save succeeding gen- erations from the scourge of war- . The voice of mankind speaks ever more firmly and clearly for a lasting peace in a world community. Some day when progress will have pain- fully but surely advanced sufficiently, the whole world will be everybody's fatherIand . E. E. Lenander.
