from Our Principal. A Message Mr. Meier The pioneers and early settlers of our country had often to over- come seemingly insurmountable obstacles before new horizons could be discerned in the dim distance. Today, thanks to these pioneers, the work of extending the frontiers across our entire country has been accomplished. We have for many years en- joyed the fruits of these tremendous labors. Now, however, we have entered an era in the history of man- kind on this planet, when a new and more extended kind of pioneering and seeking for new horizons has become necessary in order to make this earth again a fit place for man to live. Today, it is not new horizons in unexplored regions of the earth that we must seek, but new horizons in the intellectual and moral life of man, new horizons revealing ways and means by which the human race will be enabled to live in peace and harmony on this planet. s The pioneers sought new horizons impelled by a spirit of ad- venture and a longing for achievement and enrichment of life. Today all peoples of the world are driven in sheer desperation to seek and, if possible, to find the inspiration in new horizons which will save humanity from utter barbarism. This is by far the greatest task which humanity has encountered during its long history and is the great challenge especially to the youth of today. What more fitting theme could the Cehisean have for this year of 1945 than New l-lorizons ? . -A. G. MEIER. M., , W, u
