Z Coaches Watson, Rogers, and Jared took the wraps off of their 1956 Gridiron machine in a very convincing manner for the Cavaliers breezed by the Green- Wave of Gallatin 34--0. Jim Ragland and Clyde Henry seemed to be the men who kept the backfield spark flaming while Paul Matheney and Harlon Jackson piled on wood from the line. The Wildcats of Livingston came to Cookeville with their minds made up to win, only to have their plans suddenly changed by an ever-charging Cavalier line and a flashy Cavalier backfielcl that would not quit. With Jaquess and Burris doing their part in the backfield, Bennett smashing up the opposite line, and Harold Jackson dragging in T.D. passes, Central took a 55-0 Conference victory. At Tullahoma, the opposition proved to be somewhat tougher. A strong and determined Wildcat team held the Cavaliers to 21 points, but succeeded in scoring only 14- points themselves. Louis Johnson and Harlon Jackson did a good job in the line while Jim Ragland and Clyde Henry again stood out in the backfield. After a tough battle at Tullahoma, the Cavaliers turned their eyes and desires toward an ancient foe, Sparta, and came up with a pleasing 59-6 win. The team as a whole played its best game of the season. Harold Jackson and Dean Bennett played a great game up front, and in the backfield Ragland and Paris seemed to have a stronger desire to win than ever before. Our Homecoming game with McMinnville turned out to be another high-scoring thriller with the red and blue piling up 4-7 points and at the same time holding the Bulldogs scoreless. Louis Johnson and Bill Buford were the big guns for the regulars, and Thompson, Burris, the Andersons, and Morris Henry were among the reserves who added spice to a well-played game. On October 12, the Cavaliers reached their scoring peak by handing the Blue- devils from Gainesboro a salty 61-0 defeat. Bill Buford and Clyde Henry played their usual fine game while Polson and Coomer gave their former Alma Mater plenty of trouble. Jack Prichard and Foster Webb also saw lots of action. The next week at Lebanon the Cavaliers met up with a well-balanced unit that was running over with fire and desire. Cavalier backs, Ragland and Paris, carried the big load for the offensive while Luke and Lowell headed an air-tight defense from their line-backing slots. The game ended in a heart-breaking 7-7 deadlock. The Cavaliers grabbed the UCC Championship this week by slipping by a fired-up Cathage squad 14--6. Buddy and Luke led the running attack and Lowell and Solon held the line together with a do or die determination. Against the East Nashville Eagles the Cavaliers sank to the lowest point on their record and tied the Eagles 33-33. Watsonis boys were shaken down by numerous fumbles and a flashy East High back. Lowell Smith, Solon Sherrill, and Bill Smith saved the day through their teriffic line-play. Luke played his best running game of the year. To bring another season to an end, the Sons of Watson made a great comeback from the former week and dumped the Bradley County Bears 35-6. To bring down the curtain on their High School football careers, the Seniors put forth an unequalled effort and came up with a performance long to be remembered. The boys who are to return next year played with a hope and a dream of equally successful seasons in their future at Central. I propose a toast to our admirable coaching staff, and to this outstanding and unequalled team of Cavaliers who have put forth all their heart and effort to provide us with a great, undefeated season of football.
