Ulibe 1938 Qllahalier SENIOR CLASS HISTORY J. T. Spivey On the third day of Sept. , 1954, approximately l25 green and inexperienced, but ambitious, Freshmen entered the portals of Cen- tral High. Our class was under the leadership of Joe Allison, and our sponsor was Mr. Fowler Clark. After spending nine months as green Freshmen, we were thoro- ughly initiated into the practices of a true Cavalier and became solemn Sophomores. This year Mr. Fowler Clark succeeded Mr. W. M. Davis as principal. As Sophomores we took more interest in school activities. We were under the leadership of Mrs. John Holladay and Mr. H. S. Clinton. Sammy Brown, who was elected Pres., later left school. The responsibility then rested upon Jimmy Dicus, our Vice-president. Then we became jolly Juniors. Our number had fallento seven- ty students. We started with more zeal with Bobby Wright as our President. This year Misses Sue Ray Garlen and Billie Scott were chosen as our sponsors. Betty May of Missouri was added to our class. All other activities of the year were overshadowed by the presentation of the play, Bashful Bobby, givenby the Junior class The Proceeds went to finance the Junior-Senior banquet. Now we become Seniors, the goal we had long sought for. We put away all things unbecoming to our newly acquired dignity. Again 'Bobby Wright was chosen as President and Miss Pauline Hud- gens and Mr. David R. Terry were chosen as sponsors. The Senior play, Lindy Lou, a comedy drama, was given March 18. It was dir- ected by Miss Pauline Hudgens and the proceeds were used to fin- ance the annual. The graduation exercises will end the high school careers of' Seniors of which only 55 are of the original 125. Throughout all of our high school work we have witnessed many things which will always remain in our minds as pleasant memories of Central High. To the kind and understanding faculty, to Mr. Davis,a.nd Mr. Clark we owe much more than mere gratitude. To us the memory of everyone we have had the pleasure of knowing shall remain as we go forward to seek higher goals in life. 20
