'l'he hero, with inward fear and trepidation, seeks the parents of the HGirl of llis Dreams and asks permission to try to win their daughter, Miss Diploma. VVith considera- tion for the youth, but a desire to have him prove his worth. the practical father tells him that he must first win, by his own efforts, thirty-two credits. Our hero seems crushed by this almost llerculean task but determinedly agrees to do his best. Upon leaving, Mrs. Faculty gives him a bit of motherly advice and in closing says, 'fLearn. lad, to be, not to seem. liet this he your mottof, Scene 2. Corridors of 0. H. S. Sore and discouraged,H1fll5 is almost readyto give up the struggle, when by chance he forms the friendship of lilr. Athletics, who sends him on his way with renewed courage. At the Box Supper given in his honor, ht- becomes acquainted with Miss Social Activity. who is later to figure so prominently in his life. The friendship progresses, when he again meets her at the Freshman Party. His first milestone is tinally reached and he pockets the eight credits, feeling that his work is well begun. ' Act II. Sophomore O. H. S, and Vicinity. 19l5H, somewhat disheartencd, wanders disconsolately through the halls. A new rival for the hand of Miss Diploma. a. puny enough fellow to he sure, l9l6 by name, has appeared upon the scene. The suspense is great for fear our hero may be vanquishede- but no! Ile turns manfully to his task and makes a name for himself in baseball. football, cross country, track and at last di-scomiits his rivals by winning the basketball shield. At this time he also establishes his intellectual position by taking a prominent part in club activities where he acquires a lasting friend in Mr. Debate. The curtain falls as our hero leaves the stage with the precious sixteen credits clutched in his hand. -10.. W , f Ag ,.,, I S 'Li i i , -I L, My in bfi THE T DENT 1 I .eq Act III. Junior Same. Mr. l915 becomes infatuated with Miss Social Activity, neglecting his labors and is brought to task by Mr. NVill Flunk, who shows his villainous nature by threatening to betray him to Miss Diploma. Our hero disregards the warnings and amid a dazzle of light and music leads his lady to the Junior-Senior reception. Here the Fairyland of flowers and glory of the music and flutter of merry hearts proclaim '419l5', the social conqueror of O. ll. S. Yilill Flunk's dogged perseverance. after a time, awakens f'l5'sH conscience and hc realizes that he has been neglecting his duties and has been untrue to the girl of his heart. lie redoubles his efforts, returns to his task, and at last humbled and chastened. lays at the feet of his true love, Miss Diploma, eight more of the priceless credits. Act IV. Senior Scene 1. Same. 'l5 now enters upon the last and most difficult stage of his career. lle applies him- self industriously, though, to overcome the almost insuperahle obstacles. As a last resort. his ever present enemy, Flunk, appeals to his old friend, Mr. School Board. who gives him another weapon, Final Exams. But again our hero evinces his sterling qualities in out- stripping his rivals, especially in his great work in turning out a champion football team. At the Junior-Senior reception, this dignified, sedate figure encounters Miss Social Ae- tivity. but is no longer enticed by her charms. llc remains true to his trust and afterwards manfully carries the thirty-two credits to the wise father, then turns to his lady. Scene 2. The wedding in the auditorium. t'l.9l5's,' labors have been rewarded and after many pre-nuptial affairs, the wedding solenmized on the night of' the twenty-seventh of May. The auditorium is artistically decorated for the occasion and everything is brilliant with light and color. Music announces the coming of the bridal party and they slowly pass down the aisle. The bride with her father. charming and beautiful in her simple robes, is preceded by the vivacious maidens, Senior Play and Class Night, as bridesmaids. The groom, attended by Messrs. Athletics and Debate, meets the winsome bride at the altar of flowers. Dr. Masters, the beloved pastor, unites the young couple and with best wishes bids them God-speed on their honeymoon through life. The young people receive the congratula- tions of' many friends, and as the curtain goes down the notes of the class song float out on the night air. Epilogue The curtain rises a moment disclosing Mr. XVill Flank inournfully gazing upon the little friends of 4'l5?' and Miss Diploma. NVork, Help, Success, and Ilapiness singing. Curtain. Rachel M. At the time, Johnny was engaged to Grace Ledbetter and to her joy, just escaped a term at the penitentiary where Beatrice 'Shoemake and Madaline Crouch were head wardens. The noted suffragettes of the colony were Alberta Frank, Ida Green. Grace DeBolt, Naomi Bond, Lizzie Adams and Gladys Campbell. Sadie Anderson was the chief 4'stump-speakerl' of the organization. She was often knownto collect a crowd in one of the streets, where the Salvation Army would soon appear, consisting of James Anderson, leading songster, Bert Cochran, band leader, and Mar- guerite Baxter. Alpha Abington. Marie Doneeil, Frances Boydston, and Edna Colbath. Ted Bryce, the minister of our only church, takes up a special collection each Sunday for the benetit of the Salvation Army. but Ted usually managed to pocket the greater share of the donation. 'Without that surplus fund he could never have bought his marriage license for Dollie Radler, During our second year at Mars, some of the boys organized a HGirl llatersl Club of which the bashful NVill Cruce was elected president. The cause of such an organization was due to the fact, that at Mars we have only two-minute moons, and also, that several of the boys, such as Park Damon. Richard Barker, and Charles Taliaferro. never did like girls anyway. Charles Cochran's name was indignantly dropped from the roll, as he began paying court to Lois Bennett, causing the greatest grief of Rachel Smith's life. CShe had previously had hopes of either by hook or crook escaping from mllhe Old Maidsl Ilome. D Francis Vtlelch had been invited to join the 'tGirl Haters' Clubf' on the grounds that he had been running around with Lucille XVhitenaek and Samantha Renfro too much, and that L Safety Firstll was the best policy, but this he refused to do. Arthur Bourke and Fenton Sanger conducted the beauty parlor in Mars, and Meador Lee Acree and Grace Chandler served as living models for its advertisement. while just next door, as the Bourke-Sanger competitors, Beatrice C'lark and Gladys Meador had charge of a hair-dressing establishment Where Cecil Vtlilfong, Vtlayne McCorklc, and Lester Ketchum could be found at all hours of the day. We had not been in Mars many years before Genevieve Brownell married Earl Bott- ger, who ran a barber shop. lVarner lionfoey, his partner, fell in love with Cleo De'l'ar, but later married Helen Berry, when he diseovered that she had learned how a family of four eould live on ten dollars a month. Our school system was exeellent. Boys and girls who were espeeially adapted to eer- tain studies. taught in the high sehool in Mars. For instance, Byron Blackburn and Rich- ard lloyt were exeellent history instruetors, Ira Landon, the famous mathematieian, had solved the laws of the fourth dimension, Hep St. Claire and Cleta Stubblefield were the noted English teaehers and Pauline Vineent, ElI101'2l llauser and Henry Johnson taught phys- ies. David Smith was still attending the high school in Mars and at last has attained the N. G. degree, of whieh we are all very proud. One of the most interesting events took plaee about tive years ago, when Evaline Atwood made her debut and announeed her engagement to Osear Steanson. That very after- noon, Jessie Summers, weeping and moaning, announeed that she had become a nun, beeause J. lf. The room was usually tilled with the mournful. and upon one day in partieular, we found Lillian Edwards there, with no hope at all, and the remedy given. was a suggestion to start a shoe hospital where 4'soles,', if not hearts, eould be mended. YVe had but one artist in the colony, Ruth Powers, so she furnished our bill boards, thus, we give her the credit of all artistic decorations on the planet. Very vital indeed, was our fire department, consisting of Earl Fleenor. NVill Graben- dike, Jack llampton. Hugh Jacobs, and Gurdon NVilliams. But most important of all, were our red-headed attributes to the department, llelen Thornton, Myrtle Stout, Vera llall, lflarl Taggart, Clara May Hooker and Gale Stubblefield, who stationed themselves as danger-warir ings along the streets whenever there was a tire. Lucilla Welsh was sole owner of the laundry at Mars, but instead of attending to her work, she spent a great part of her time in the laundry wagons, with the delivery boys, NVil- lard Miller. Earl Ward, or Victor Schrameck. ln the laundry itself, Mary Mattison was head wringer, while Daphne Pratt did the blueing. The Clothes were not the only things that were blue in that laundry by the time Daphne had finished her work! And Lela Downing, Lillian Freeman and V'Boy llarrison were the stiff-starchers. They added a peculiar gloss to the garment which would easily hide all defects, and when Elizabeth Lightfoot, llelen Lord and Alma Maehlanburg smoothed out the clothes to iron, several people were Hsmoothed out themselves for neglecting their duties. Alice llyde was called our HGerman guard for her dress was be-speckeled with twenty-nine frat pins, and she looked much more like a soldier than a maiden lady. Beryl Barnett, after long hesitating between the two courses. of being a kindergarten teacher or captain of the Colony Militia, finally chose the latter. Russel Cheney was first lieutenant and it was his chief joy to give orders to his subordinates, Anna Belle Gross, Hazel Miller. Dixon Noe, Byron McGaha, and Erie Sherman. Mabel Berke is still noted for her lack of curiosity, especially when she told Hoy Crow that she wondered why neither he nor she had ever married. The stimulus for Hoy was too great, and the following night came the response, in the form of a wedding at which Ted Brice otficiated. Many were the ainusements at Mars, but the greatest of all these was the local stock com- pany, of which John Barry was manager and director. Some of the remaining places are filled by Lena Fiege, Bernice Lippincott, Ma- bel Morgan, Joe Ray, and Xannie Ross. It was known to be the strongest east ever organ- ized in Mars-it being the only attempt we ever made along that line. Our hospital, under the care of Olive Downing. Bunk nf Zuniurs ee ease-is invasion of the tiibe of 'ltS, their mighty conquests, and their hopes. ND so it came to pass than in the Hrst ytfar of the reign of Masters over 0. Il. S., the tribe of '16 invaded his realm in search of knowledge. and took up their abode therein. And the people of Blasters made way for them, and did also admit their captain to their eounsels, and put them to labor in chosen fields for two years. 2. lint on the beginning of the third year, the tribe of '16 under the faculty prophets, and the generals, King and Mantz. girded up their loins and became the rulers of the land. 3. VVlienever the strong men of the realm met in conliict, the tribe of ,Ni prevailcdg yea. it won great victories over all in basketball, in ero-ss-eountry run, and in track meets. So that when the hosts of Tulsa and Cherokee and Shawnee and Norman assailed the realm of 0. H. S., the tribe of 716 sent strong Warriors to till the football and track teams. 4. Now it came to pass that in the third year of Masters, there was peace in the tribe and great rejoicing. So that they brought divers pieces of gold and tilled the treasury unto overtiowing, and made sales of sweet-meats, and held many feast days, till, at the end of the third year. all the greatest of the realm came to the Junior-Senior reception. Thus did the tribe of 'lti become full of glory and might, Zlllll thus, also, are the sons of the prophets prepared to do in the fourth year with great clashing of cymbals and blasting' of trumpets. -6gn, 1 -O 1 if X 1 .1 JW' lf ,if ' 1 Q1 ' 11X O , A 11' 1 Q fggr, 1,1 ,.. , 15 1 I 1 fkf Q 1111, ,151 i - 1 ,, ff 7 f 5 55 L f ff 1 sy E K Ql2lQ1llQ6llf2lEf , X , X K, nj ll w l Q T 1 J , , 'K Qi -O t , X ! 2. l f, 1 , in ,-fnffrfqf Gigi ,fx 6, 1 , y f f -17 V 4 Z Q X . ilx-x Q 'N .0 'ff ,igg . llli w111'l1 111 11111' l1111101'11l1l11 1-l11ss ill'?LNYS 111 El 1-losv. w1- Q'l2l11L'ltl 11111-l:w111'1l 11v111' the 1'111'111'1l of lllll y11111', we 11111111111 lllll l1ill'l4'Q il 1l1111i1l111l 1111111'0v111111111t 1111111 ll111 1 . . At another meeting, the eolors. blue and gold. were chosen, with the yellow elirysantheinuni as our class flower, and plans were inade for a Freshman party. The Freshmen did very good work in athletics, in the cross-country. and in the inter- elass basketball particularly. This year in the new tennis tournament for girls, Miss llazel Fuehner won in dou- bles, and Miss Elizabeth Brooke won in singrll-s. Though the elass was a fine one showing great promise, yet we honestly adinit that there is mueh to be attained by the Sophomores of 1916.
