NOCTURNE VERA PEvsNER Oscillating dimness full of silent murmurs, Sleeping children's dreams coming through the door: Shadows of Fairyland- Peter Pan, Wendy- Transparent phantoms on the moonlit floor. Heavy specters surging in a world of darkness, Bringing back a busy day's tedious care: Pacing obscurity, Unstable, ruthless, Sinister and cold in the white moon's glare. Lustrous, floating fantasies--arabesques of silver- Scintillating visions of a world not true: Dreams of the old age- Dreams of a haven On tall, cool mountains of tranquil blue. Needles of frost, Holding the earth in a cold embrace, Needles of frost, Pungent and thin, impalpable, tossed From where they lie in immaculate grace. Whirlwinds white blow into your face Needles of frost. VERA PEvsNER METAMORPHOSIS f To Centrall HARRY STEVENS, '42 Immersed in the quiet depth Of this massive structure, And encircled by the warmth Of the embracing arms, The immatured seed here generates Into a tender bud, From which bursts forth, radiantly, The embodied blossom, To weather the static atmosphere Of the earthly tempest.
