FOREWORD Never was the worldis challenge to responsible youth so inviting as it is today. Its doors to careers of honor and service open upon opportunities of the magnitude and quality which strong men and women always crave. Be- cause the task is so difiicult and the issues at stake so important, the call that comes is for the very best young men and women of our generation. The spirit of unrest and revolt among the great masses of people today has in it an element of promise. For dissatisfaction with things as they are is the first step toward making them as they should be. We are living in an age of action. With indifference and inaction we can never build a better world. There must be the urge to work-not at industrial tasks alone, but at tasks of heart and brain as well. The class of 1935 has a definite share of the world's work to do. Accord- ingly, the ministry of education, the ministry of preaching, the ministry of medicine, the ministry of music, the ministry of publication, the ministry of social service, and all the many other vocations, present themselves for our choice. Somewhere there is a field of endeavor in which each one of us can attain to the highest success, experience the greatest satisfaction, and render the largest service. To find our place in the work which is to be done is important. The question of the right vocation is a serious one. Few mistakes have more tragic consequences than the mistake of choosing a wrong career. To miss one's calling tends later in life to cause disappointment and dissatisfaction, and these are sure to minimize efficiency and to magnify discontent. Our prayers and hopes are with all the members of our school who struggle courageously to sustain and further the honor of our beloved institu- tion, who give themselves to the building of a better civilization, and who feel the urge of some commanding task that in the years to come may lift them to places of eminence and renown. ROBERT N. COALE I-41
