O I , s 0 ' I I I I IN M EMORIA M JouN Josizvu 'l'uoMAs Member of the Central High School Faculty 1910-1935. died May 17. 1935 The career of Mr. 'I1l10lIl3S 't'l1lllIlg after a prolonged struggle against yielding to ill health-is an example of achievement in the face of what might be considered almost in- surmountable difiiculties. He was born in Pennsylvania of sturdy Welsh stock. Am- bitious for an education. he had sufhcient strength of character to overcome every ob- stacle that might block his path. He worked his way through Lafayette College. where he maintained a good scholastic record. and dis- tinguished himself nationally in football. For several years he was Central's coach in this sport. developing record teams. Central students of today knew him only as a teacher of mathematics. but he was a man of wider interests. among these. history and music. His many friends in the faculty will always remember his genial manner and pleasant smile, but beneath the qualities that endeared him to all who were associated with him in work or play. there remained the sterling honesty. the strength and the fighting spirit that are characteristic of the Welsh roots from which he sprang.
