Let’s listen in and get a sneak preview, okay? Who is that pumping gas into that blue Cadillac? Why it’s NICKY CRADDOCK owner and operator of a gas station at Morgan’s Corner. Off in the distance we see the latest jet coming in for a forced landing. As it spurters to a screeching halt, CARROLL FRIAS rushes out to make needed repairs while the pilot, GENE STALLINGS, steps shakily to the ground. Looking further, we see PHYLLIS JERNIGAN attempting to prevent her chemistry students from demolishing the left wing of the new consolidated school. Down the hall, JANE STAFFORD works feverishly to teach her home ec students the difference between a dart and a seam. In the biology lab, Dr. ELIZABETH SYMONS carefully prepares slides of live paramecia. Across the campus in the agriculture shop, WALDEN HEARNdemonstrates the fine points in constructing a gun rack; while outside, we hear the booming voice of the physical education instructor, RALPH CAPPS. In a Paris, France studio we find the world-renowned artist EDWARD WITTSELL busily painting a portrait of Colonel GERALD DETROIT EDWARDS of the U. S. M. C. The expanding business of Perry Motor Co., owned by WAYNE PERRY, demands two top-notch secretaries. Who could fill the bill better than SANDRA WILLIAMS and FAYE BRAY? STEVE and JAMES BATEMAN, sheet metal workers, and CHARLES McNAUGHTON haven’t yet realized their indirect contribution to the important explorations of the Atlantic Ocean made by Captain WILLIAM ARL-EDGE. At Blair General Hospital, we find Dr. Kildare's new assistant, CLARK BRIGHT, conferring with his head nurse, WILMA WHITE. Down the hall in the pediatrics ward, LENA JONES is holding a six year old while KRIS BABBITT administers a shot of penicillin. In a modern office building designed by architect, J.B.CARTWRIGHT,we see BOBBYWEEKS of Weeks, Weeks, and Weeks giving instructions to his private secretary, BETTY SHARBE. In the outer office, we find LYDIA WEEKS still struggling along trying to type numbers fast and correct on one of the many contracts. Across the street, we find GEORGE RAPER manager of the Carolina Theatre, lecturing his secretaries, SYLVIA CARTWRIGHT and DELORUS MORRIS on the importance of ordering the right movies from the companies in time for the next showing. In a Broadway studio we find GENE EUBANKS teaching a new dance step to some students while in the inner office GAIL TAFT, his secretary, talks to his co-partner Fred Astaire. On the home front, we see that MARIE BROTHERS is playing secretary and housewife, while DONA WHITEHEAD is struggling with four children and working at the telephone office at the same time. BAIL SPEAR, owner and operator of the Hear-No-More Radio Shop”, shows his secretary, LOIS BALL-ANCE, why a radio cannot possibly work without installing the right tubes. At the newly constructed fire tower at Newland, we see PERCY CARTWRIGHT, a forest ranger, ascending to the top while the rain pours down. We can hear him muttering something about BENNIE PRITCHARD of the local CAA not getting his weather reports correct. At the Virginia and Carolina Telephone Company, we find MARION HARRIS, Business Administrator, explaining to a worker, CHARLIE WILLIAMS, the importance of not mistaking an electric wire for a telephone wire. Over at the Martin's Decorating Shop, we find BRENDA GIBBS trying to get the owner to accept her modern” decorating ideas. At the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, we see RICHARD WILLIAMS struggling through the test for. apprenticeship. LATITCIA MEADS just pulled up under the Central Garagedriving thebrand new family car. What's that? Oh! she's trying to convince GEORGE SAWYER that he and his partner, RALPH WOOD can fix that dented fender before hubby sees it. If they can't fix it, that efficient mechanic in coveralls, GENE VENTURA, certainly can. LOLITA LARABEE, on leave from her missionary teaching job in Japan, is having her hair done in the latest style by SYLVIA BUNDY of the Kinky Kurls Beauty Salon. EUCELL BYRUM is at work there also trying to make a patron look twenty years younger. Back in Okisko, LARRY OWNLEY appears to have taken over his father's business. Out on U. S. 17, we find the WILLIAM M. UMPH-LETT Construction Company building the new superhighway between Elizabeth City and Hertford. He recently employed two brilliant new civil engineers, THOMAS TURNER and JOHNNY SAWYER. Last but not least, we see DOUG LAS IVEY, the game warden, trying his best to enforce the laws concerning wildlife preservation. Well, our crystal ball is fading out on the Seniors of '63. Testators: Betty Sharber, Sandra Williams Cj ass Jfistory In the fall of 1951, a group of very excited boys and girls gathered in a huge strange-looking building to start down the road of quality education. Now in 1962-63 some of us are nearing the end of our journey but it is just the beginning for those of us who will seek a college education. As we reach this great milestone in our lives and recall some of our early years in school, we remember well the tasks of learning our multiplication tables and such courses as history and geography. Even though the road was sometimes hard and filled with many pitfalls, we finally reached the eighth grade. It was here that we were joined by sixteen students from Newland. Although there was some jealousy between us at first, we soon grew to like them and now cherish them as life-long friends. We started our in 1959 on a new experience, the great adventure of high school. Even though we looked upon ourselves as being fairly intelligent, we became known to the remainder of the student body as those dumb Freshmen. By the time we were Sophomores, we had grown accustomed to high school life. The highlights of this school year were the initiation of the Freshmen along with our class skating party and weiner roast. All of us were eager to begin our Junior year. This we found to be the busiest year we had yet encountered. Many important events filled this joyous year, such as the presentation of our Junior Play, the Junior and Senior Banquet and Prom, in addition to the selection of our class rings. Now that we are Seniors we regret in many ways the fact that we will soon be departing from Central High. We have had many exciting experiences and have learned numerous and valuable bits of knowledge. For this, we can thank our various teachers who have served us so faithfully and patiently. As graduation grows near and each of us go our separate ways, we realize more fully that we will always cherish the wonderful memories of our years at Central High School. As we face the responsibilities and the problems of life in the future, we hope that each of us will always live and abide by the class motto, Less than our best is failure and strive constantly to do those things which will bring honor not only to ourselves but to our school.
