Class History Hearken unto me and listen while 1 tell you of something which began several years ago at dear old Central High. In the year of 1944, most of us present seniors --then only small boys and small girls, awed by such a thing as going to school --took another step in the long, yet short, pilgrimage on the great road of life. As we thus began this journey of schooling, we contacted many strange people whom we grew to like very much. Sooner or later we realized the important parts played by reading and 'riting and 'rithmetic in this adventure. Finally, despite the many obstacles which we met along the way, we arrived at the concluding of our grade-school life. In that eighth year, highlighted by a trip to our state capital, Raleigh, and climaxed by our graduation, we were joined by some students from Newland. Then we came to a slight curve in the road as we reached our freshman stage. Especially remembered of that year is our initiation into the F.F.A. and F.H.A. clubs. By the time we were sophomores, we were more-or-less acquainted with the ways and whim.? of high-schoolers. Of that year, we recall our Sophomore-Senior weiner roast held at historic Nixonton. At last we were Juniors! During that time we found ourselves busily engaged in the receiving of our class rings, the giving of the customary Junior play, and the giving and the attending of the usual Junior-Senior banquet. With some sadness and some gladness, we realize that senior life at present is swiftly passing. Various activities press themselves urgently upon us as we are about to end our high-school life once and forever. But, despite the many things which are behind and before, we press eagerly toward the future with warm courage and high hope. In conclusion, we hereby express our appreciation for our homeroom teacher, who has stayed with us through the ups and downs which accompany four years of high-school life. We say Thank you, Mr. Derrick. Also, to all of the others who have served us so faithfully during our travels, we say Thank you, one and all.
