Home economics offered a broad selection of courses ranging from fundamentals in cooking to interior decorating. These were essentials as vital to tomorrow's housewife as to tomorrow's model. Another important region of our devel- opment was the preparation for driving on the over- crowded roads. This task was handled by driver's educa- tion. Swing Choir, one of Central's musical organizations, practice the songs diligently for use in the Thanksgiving Day assembly and the Christmas program. The Art and Music Departments at Central offered each student the opportunity to develop his individual talents. The Art Department worked with oil paints, water colors, clay, and charcoal, while the Art Club made signs for Central's athletic and social events. The Music Department, in addition to Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Swing Band, Robed Choir, Swing Choir, and Nocturne, also consisted of fourth and fifth hour Girls' Chorus. Long before the noon-time stampede, the two full time cooks were preparing appetizing meals. Nlr. Schyma was Central's chief ticket puncher. l-le also kept the lunch line moving smoothly. Mr. Sauer had the iob of directing students to tables and keeping order. After lunch the student helpers cleaned up the lunch room. All this made the noon hour and lunch a pleasure. Central's custodians comprised one group whose faithful behind-the-scenes work kept our school in order. Our ianitors were Rudy Bay, George Jiracek, Roger Krueger, Fred Mekvold, Walter Schultz, and Carl Violette. Together they accomplished the seemingly endless task of looking after the sanitation and maintenance of our school building and grounds. . ., ' ' . 'X Q ,.
