With varied proiects for each grade, students were taught the basics of grammar, speech, and literature. While sophomores wrote their autobiographies and learned of the trials and tribulations of David Copper- field and Julius Caesar, the juniors worked hard pre- paring their Junior Ex. speeches. The seniors ended their final year at Central with term papers dealing with their future occupations. Joel Helke initiates a new member into Central's Latin Club, Junior Classical League, while other apprehensive students wait for their turn. important role in the broadening of our student's cultural background. In addition to the satisfaction derived from learning to communicate in a foreign language, the study of another language usually acquainted the student vvith the people who spoke the language. They came to know their art, history, and literature. Central offered a choice of four foreign languages: Latin, French, Spanish, and German.

It kept Centralites in top physical condition and taught good sportsmanship, a highly important trait. Central's Business Education Department prepared the students for iobs involving commercial skills and for further study in college. The Manual Arts Department trained students for their future vocation using the skills they had been taught. The courses offered were mechanical drawing, machine woodworking, and machine shop. Physical Education is a very important phase of Central. Here one of Mr. Venne's sophomore gym classes participates in a spirited game of speedball.
