RNS' Forty-three Years of Service For Theodora Taras, teaching was a challenging occupation which has been interesting and rewarding to her. Miss Taras retired this year after forty-three years of teaching. She received her B.A. degree at Lawrence Univer- sity in Appleton, Wisconsin, She has since attended summer school at the University ot Wisconsin at Madison, the University of Cincinnati, and Middlebury College in Vermont. Miss Taras, who taught Latin and German, pre- viously taught English and history. In addition to teaching she has been associated with Junior Classical League, Studio Flott, and Circle. During the war Miss Taras drove a taxi and drove trucks for a canning company. In her spare time she enioyed crocheting as well as studying the German Language. She furthered her study ot the German culture by collecting record albums and enioying the German type ot music. Miss Toras, German and Latin teacher, realizes the importance of a tape recorder in the advancement of languages. With the use of the tape recorder, she prepares her classes' lessons.

Student Council Typing cmd Testing The Guidance Department at Central served many useful purposes this year. Help and advice were given to sophomores, iuniors, and seniors on what courses to take not only in Central, but in college. In addition to aiding students in choosing the correct college, infor- mation on scholarships was made available and tests were administered. In cooperation with the State Employ- ment Service, assistance was given in part-time iolo placement. College and occupational counseling was also provided. The counselors also helped students cope with personal and social problems. The secretaries handled the mechanics of the school. They enrolled new students and took care of the students who withdrew. Failure slips, report cards, and office correspondence were typed up and mailed. Transcripts of students' grades were also sent to colleges. As the contact between the teachers and students, the secre- taries typed announcements, athletic department reports, and the schedules and dates for sporting events. Guidance counselor Mr. Bell explains entrance requirements for Carle- ton College to senior Bill Melby, as Bill is considering entering Carleton. Guidance secretary Mrs. Nebel cheerfully hands junior Rolf Gundersen some information of the P.S.A.T. which he will soon take under the direction of the guidance counselors. Wg . Q f' 1 at MRS.
