THE BOOSTER 1933 Mlss Agnes Hayes OV! true lt IS that the passmg of a beautlful and noble character makes us consclous of many blesslngs left behlnd perhaps to the more mature a subllme memory to youth a plllar of ldeals to gulde them ln thelr gropmgs and uncertalntles So It IS wlth the passing of Mlss Agnes Hayes For almost thlrteen years ln her modest way she contrlbuted to the l1fe of Central Hlgh School She walked among us dlffuslng xlrtue as a star dlffuses light or a flower perfume wlthout ex en bemg aware of lt And only at her passlng do we pause to analy7e the character we had loved and had accepted as our dally rlght Now each tralt of that gentle forceful soul stands out She was a dlllgent scholar whose thoughts and Interests led her lnto many fields This found fruxt ln a breadth of xlslon marked by a COHSCIOUSHGSS of truth and contempt for error Her staunch ldeallsm made her severe ln her demands upon herself but 1n contrast to thls she had a tolerant under standlng of others weaknesses Perhaps It was her savlng sense of humor her courageous surmountlng of handicaps whlch had been hers from chlldhood whlch gawe her that sym pathetlc understandlng of people and thelr trlals Old and young allke confided thelr dlfficultles and w1th rare Judgment she would polnt the way No day s labor was ever so wearlsome that she would not pause to llsten to such confidences no revelatlon so hopeless that she would not strlve for a solutlon In her relatlonshlp wlth her fellows she was ever consclous of the pro prletles and recognlzed the rlght of soclety to set standards of conduct for the lndlvldual Her l1v1ng exempllfied the true splrxt of Democracy an appreclatlon of the lnnate worth of the lndnldual wlthout resort to com monness Thls was reflected ln her lnslstence that the glrls whom she advlsed should 1n thelr soclal functlons glV9 heed to the detalls whlch contrlbute so largely IH tralnlng them to meet the demand of soclal responslblhtles Per haps the students who have mentloned her metlculous care of her personal self w1ll recognlze ln thls her sense of obllgatlon to her fellows In gnmg tlme and effort to the school she found her satlsfactlon IH the Joy of SGFXICG She sought not pralse All these qualltles were enrlched by a splrltualltg. and an abldlng falth ln the wlsdom andjustlce of C od Armed wlth thls falth she met death wlthout fear or bltterness May her Splflt attaln lmmortalltv IH the ln es she has Influenced and may her loxlmess be handul down m U 1Illll0T'l Igl' , I-l ' ' ' ' ' .. , in r r 1 . . . . .
