Foreword TO THE MEMBERS OF THE 1957 GRADUATING CLASS OF CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL AND THOSE WHO FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU, I ADDRESS THIS STATE- MENT: EACH GRADUATING CLASS LIKE EACH GENERATION COMES TO ACCEPT THE HERITAGE AND BENEFITS OF ITS TIME AS COMMON-PLACE WITHOUT RE- FLECTION ON THE STRUGGLES AND SACRIFICES OF THE PAST WHICH HAVE MADE POSSIBLE EACH GOLDEN AGE. AND WHEREAS WE ARE INDEBTED TO THE PAST, THE FUTURE PRESENTS A CHALLENGE TO US TO HOLD HIGH THE IDEALS OF THE PAST AND IMPROVE ON THE GOOD WHICH HAS COME DOWN TO US. I WONDER IF YOU HAVE THOUGHT HOW FORTUNATE YOU ARE TO BE LIVING IN THIS TIME WITH THE FAVOR OF YOUTH BEFORE YOU. THE DREAMS WHICH YOU CAN DREAM WITH THE EXPECTATION OF THEM BECOMING A REALITY, WOULD HAVE SEEMED FANTASTIC TWENTY YEARS AGO. I WISH TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON THIS IMPORTANT MILESTONE IN PREPAR- ING YOURSELF TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF YOUR TIME.
