Kathy, a member of the Y—Teens at Central, also enjoys swimming, cooking, track, and bowling . She is very inter- ested in completing her education at Central High and strongly believes that education is the key to success. After completing high school, Kathy would like to make a career in the Armed Forces as a WAC. Melanie’s reportings kept her busy before, during, and after school, but her efforts were re— warded on Friday as her news came off the press in the local newspaper. What’s happening at Central ? In between taking pic - tures and alphabetizing names, time was taken for a trip to the Journal - Sentinel Newspaper Office and to Editor, Ronald Campbell, looks over the Re) SUED finished product. MISS CENTRAL eighty—three SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK STUDENT ALD EMD AY: PREPARING MEALS IS FUN A visit to the bakery and other local food processing places have been beneficial to the mem - bers of the Cooking Club in their activities conceming the preparation of well—balanced meals. At Christmas, green was placed in the planters in the front of the building. In the fall tulip and iris bulbs were planted to enhance the beauty of the school grounds. The young men work hard at planting bulbs. eighty—seven DESSERTS ARE FUN The members of the Girls’ Cooking Club have leamed about the different types of foods and many methods of cooking them. Every week during their club meeting the members cooked and ate some type of food. They enjoyed making such des- setts as cookies, cup cakes, and candy apples. Sponsor—Mrs. Cathy Motsinger. In printing the newspaper, the staff participated in interviewing, te- porting news, and taking pictures of student activities. Six issues were printed during the school year. In addi- tion to their activities related to printing, the staff took field trips which included visits to the offices of the Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel. This interest has strengthened their understanding of the basic radio fundamentals as well their ability to repair radios. LEARNING TO WORK TOGETHER The members of the Y—Teens are actively engaged in projects which help them fulfill their goal of growing in friendship with people of all races, religions, and nationalities. Their activities have centered around trips to the YWCA. Reynolda House, Old Salem, and Schlitz Brewery. Other projects the Y—Teens partic- ipated in included selling stationery, making jewelry and pillows.
