I5 1 A' ARROW BOARD The Arrow Board functions to produce an annual one which will be a credit to Aberdeen High School and one which will revlew the school s de partments and activities for the graduates of Central High The name was derived from Longfellow s poem The Arrow and the Song The Arrow of 1934 was entered in the Northern Interscholastlc Press Association contest sponsored by the UUIVCYSIYY of North Dakota and there took second place against annuals from all over the Northwest In the lNat lonal Scholastlc Press Association contest at Chicago lt received a rating of excellent obtammg 830 points out of a possible 900 In state wide compe t1t1on it won second place at the convention of the state High School Press Association at Brookings It was the only high school print shop product to entered in this particular yearbook contest The 19.39 Arrow Board is composed of nine students William Carleton editor in chief was elected to the Arrow Board in 193.3 as the Junior editor The art editor Philip Barrager was selected by MISS Christensen who is the art adviser for the Arrow The literary editors were nominated by the Eng l1sh teachers and elected by the Jumor and semor classes The class edit ors are Robert O Riley semor editor Ely nor Shedd Junior editor and Mavis Weber sophomore editor Other members of the board are Milton Nugent activities Otto Kraushaar sports Howard Walker literary and student life and Richard Mewaldt business manager KEYSTON E SOCIETY Keystone the Aberdeen High School chapter of the National Honor Society was organized in 1924 To be eligible for Keystone one must be ln the upper quarter of his class ln scholarshlp outstandmg ln leadership char acter and SCYVICC and must have been a student in Aberdeen High School for at least one year Only 11A 12B and 12A students are qualified for this honor Membership IS first voted on by the orgamzatlon and then by a fac ulty committee The names of the people accepted are revealed at special as semblles at which time they take the Keystone pledge and are formally m mated mto the club Two such assemblies are held during the school year The purpose of Keystone is to stimulate the desire to serve to create enthuslasm for scholarship to promote leadership and to develop character 'I he emblem for the society IS the Keystone with a flaming torch and the four letters S L C S at base The letters stand for the four cardinal points Each six weeks a plaque IS awarded by Keystone to the home room havmg the highest average in scholarship Srnultaneously a banner IS pre sented to the home room with the least number of tardxes absences and dis ciplme cases during the previous six weeks period Each spring on Award N ight the club presents a medal to a non Keystone student who IS outstand ing in school leadership Two social meetings are held each year 4AQ5Af'A:4' ' J- A 4 IXII IXNPNIY ltilll Y ' U M .yy .
