FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of Amerlca or F F A as xt IS more commonly known IS a natlonal organlzatlon of farm boys studylng Vocatlonal Agrl culture The national organlzatlon IS made up of state organlzatlons 1nclud1ng every state but one 1n the Unlted States and Hawan and Puerto Rlco Each state FFA IS d1v1ded lDtO several dlstrlcts and these dlstrxcts are ln turn d1Vld8d mto local chapters sltuated ln most of the schools ln the dlstrlcts 'lhe Svs 1tz Clty F F A Chapter whlch was 01 ganlzed 1n the sprlng of 1945 now has twelve Chapter Farmers the second hlghest degree At present there are twenty four Greenhands the rank at wh1ch all F F A members start We have also had two boys from our chapter Vance York and Fred Rowe to be awarded the State or HOOSIBP Farmer Degree the th1rd hlghest degree of the orgamzatlon Wh1Ch IS awarded only for outstandlng records kept 1n record books and outstandlng records of partlclpatlon 1n school and communlty as well as FFA affalrs Last September after school began we elected new offlcers They are as follows Presldent Fred Rowe V106 Presldent David Roudebush Secretary Jlmmle Hamllton Reporter Robert Pruett Sentlnel Don York There have been four D1str1ct VII F F A meetmgs up to thls date at Shakamak State Park Honey Creek Hlgh School Graysv1lle Hlgh School and at Greencastle Hlgh School Our Chapter has been represented at three of these meetmgs by the two Offlclal delegates and other mem bers We also have one boy who holds a dlstrlct offlce Fred Rowe was elected D1str1ct Vlce Presxdent at the first dlstrlct meetlng Our Chapter as well as our d1str1ct has done very well ln FF A work durlng the past few years The Swltz Clty Chapter has been especlally successful ln d1str1ct contests wmnmg ltS share of the prlzes offered Our members have done exceptlonally well ln the Pest Killing Contest whlch IS held annually Many of our members ordered off1c1al F F A Jackets thls year These Jackets are natlonal blue corduroy wlth corn gold emblems on both front and back They also have the chapter and state name on the back and the boys names and thelr offlces on the front We thlnk that our F F A and 1tS members are dolng a good Job for durmg the past few years all of the proJects have proved very worth whlle and profitable and mth our lncreased membershlp we hope to do better.
