THE MARCHING TO VICTORY BAND OF 1950 The band has been one of the mam factors ln helpmg to develop our school It glves to all students who are lnterested a chance to lncrease thelr sklll ln muslc through organlzed practice Our band has played an lmportant part ln the development of our school hlstory It was flrst orgamzed ln the year 1931 under the dxrectlon of MISS Gladys Horrall Mlss Horrall havlng orgamzed and worked wlth the band for a perlod of more than one year was suddenly taken 1ll Mrs N 1olet Talbott was then employed as dlrector and had charge of the band for the next twelve years Under her able leadersh1p the band was led to many vlctorles Upon Mrs Talbott s reslgnatlon the band was under the dlrectlon of Mathan Brldwell 1943 44 Dorls Hodde 1944 45 Mrs Mason Landls 1945 46 Mrs Henry Swxtz 1946 47 Raymond Blalr 1947 48 Hazel MOFTIQ 1948 49 and 19 now led by Mrs Mason Landls Our band has certalnly worked hard thlS year to l1ve up to their name fThe Marching' to Vxctory Band of 19507 At the beglnnlng of school we had an enrollment of twenty elght members There were elght members added to our band before the end of the flrst semester The new members were D3V1d Slzemore Ralph Barnard Charles Roudebush Delores Norman Joretta McDonald Jewel Rowe Jamce Hasler and Becky Rlchardson We are proud of the accomphshments we have made thus far and slnce thus artlcle goes to press before our Dlstrlct Band Contest we can only say that we hope we w1ll be successful ln galnmg another vlctory for the vear of 1950 Among the current act1v1t1es of the band the followmg perfor mances are the most outstandlng On November 28 we played for a Greene County Farm Bureau Meetmg November 4 opened our Basket ball Season and followmg the usual tradltlon we played at every home game We also played for a ch1l1 supper sponsored by the Band Parents Club on February 1 Only 50 per cent of the band was able to part1c1pate 1n our Annual Greene County Sprmg Festlval whlch was held at Lyons March 11 Majorettes of the band for 1950 were Betty Jo Gastmeau and Jewel Rowe bemors will recelve honor sweaters th1S year They are Bonme Bor ders Mary Martha Greves John Gastmeau Joe Harrell Davld Roude bush and Laverne Roudebush The graduatmg members of the Marchmg to Vlctory Band of 1950 wlsh to thank thelr mstructor Mrs Mason Landls for her splendld leader shlp GLEE CLUB The Glee Club IS under the dlrectlon of Mrs Mason Landis The mlx ed chorus conslsts of thlrty flV8 members Twenty one glrls and fourteen boys 'lhere were three Senlors who completed both semesters Mary Martha Greves Rxchard Barnard and Joe Harrell Muslc studled thls year conslsted of popular sem1 classlcal and classlcal selectlons The chorus partxclpated ln the Chrlstmas Program They also went Chrlstmas Carollng whlch everyone enjoyed The most outstandlng actxvlty of the Glee Club thls year was presentmg the Sugar Foot Mm strel u V 11 . . .
