One year gone by and nothing but vague remembrances, which probably will fade. September 12-Oh, what little thrills I have just experienced. Just as I was coming up the front walk who should come running to meet me but my roommate. It is just impossible to tell even you, Diary, how glad I am to see her, not to men- tion all the old and new girls that are here. I don't think I have forgotten any nook or corner of this dear building, and its lovely picture as it stands against a sunset across the Missouri river can. never be erased from my memory or my heart. Lucky for you Diary, that the dinner gong is ringing or I fear I should grow sentimental. , .In 4 L: s ,. Y N., ,,. , 1 L. -rv:-P' - ,psf . The scholastic curriculum embraces English, Mathematics, History, Language, and Science. In no degree are these departments stationary, every effort is constantly being made to perfect faculty, courses, and equipment, in order that the best possible material will be within the grasp of the students. Central's established ideals are the nucleus around which the college life moves. These ideals, to be practical, must be carried into the work of each student. As- similation of such principles as honesty, perseverance, and high aspirations cannot fail to give stimulus to study, and so the monotony of daily routine is lessened. It is in the Department of Arts and Science that these ideals have manifested them- selves most plainly and which forms the framework upo11 which may be built the l1lOI'C 0I'I13lIlC1ltZll StI'llCiLl1I'C of Cl12l1'Z1CtC1'. - llmgz at Biggs and Science March Q1-Diary dear, don't you get frightfully tired of my spells of solilo- quizing? I was industriously trying to study, but evidently had both ears open to everything that was going on around me for I overheard a town girl ask another if Central had a college of Arts and Sciences. and the other girl remarked, i'Of course, fll1l1'1l'J'lJff'll'- You know they teach Art here, and we are both in Botany and that's a Sciencef' I wonder if they really thought that such a state of affairs existed. The aim of the Department of Art is to lay a broad foundation for the studv and practice of the Fine Arts. This aim is made possible bv the different courses offered which are: China painting, sketching, clay modeling, biatik and ofesso. At regular periods during the year the work of the students is exhibited. This adds a great deal to the social life of the department. Decorations had to be put up and you should have seen the rush for pledges. If any pledge escaped today it was because she was hiding Out.
