Everyone in this family has his own idea of a means of support, after their one source of income, their lively grandmother has decided to cut off their monthly allowance. The mother is crazy about dramatics, the daughter is simply silly for athletics, the father is wild about fishing and the son spends his time with photography. To top off the riotous antics the family goes through to sup- port itself with its many careers, we have the house maid, a dissatisfied individ- ual, who is never afraid to tell the Hatter family that she disapproves of their actions. Especially evident is the fact that without a goal, school is meaningless. Slowly, in our Freshman year, we began to fall in step with the high school curriculum, and in due time accumulated both confidence and experience. We learned that much study, on our part, was necessary if we were to obtain more than passing grades. When we had risen to the high rank of Sophomores, we thought ourselves to be of that indelinable group known as worldly , We justified this claim by the knowledge we had gained in the classroom, and that which we had usurped from other quarters. The first official act of our Sophomore year was the election of class officers. The highlight of our Junior year was our Junior Prom. When the or- chestra ceased playing and students moved toward the exits of the ballroom, the hard-working Prom Committee had completely outdone itself in planning and presenting the dance of dances . As our Senior year opened, our goal seemed nearer at hand and yet, at times, so far off. Our class politics became more important and we had keen rivalry for the class offices. Our social affairs began with the Senior play and terminated with the Senior Reception. Now we begin to realize that we have had only a sip from the huge trough of knowledge. Our four years of high school, combined with the desperate things going on in the world, have tended to make us more practical and more mature, We are witnessing a prosperity, artiiicially made, and we have a won- derful opportunity for work. At the end of our academic career, we look back over years well spent, lilled with interesting and valuable experience as well as lasting friendships. We are sorry to leave our school and the pleasant academic way of life: yet we are all anxious to tackle the problems of the modern world, hoping that the seeds of success, so carefully instilled in us by the school, will de- velop and bring honor to ourselves, our school, and our country. l40l F CLASS TRIP COMMITTEE irst Row-tI.eft to Riglitl Ruth Franklin, Anita Kal- man, ,lean Burns. Assis In the fall of 1938 a very timid group of Freshmen entered, the portals of Central Falls High School. As the year progressed, however, the timidness wore off and we began to feel more at home. There was no class organization until our second year when the first event for which we were responsible was the Sopohomore- Social. This event was a success in every way. At last the long awaited time came. We were Juniors and upper c1assmen . Our first step was the organization of the classy next, the laying of plans for the Junior Frolic, the forerunner to the dream of every Junior-the Prom. Both the Frolic and the Prom were socially a success, and were the greatest financial successes in a number of years. The last activity of the Junior year was the entertaining and humorous play, Stream- lined Sue. And now the Junior Class closes its door on a very successful year and looks forward to occupying the places left vacant by the class of '41, We will try to deserve the dignified. title of Senior. RUTH BEAVEN WALTER LADA SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY President--Raymond LaPlante Vice-President-Louis Poutre Secretary-Mabel Thornton Treasurer-Samuel Shmaruk Student Council--John Kubiski Faculty Adviser-Mr. James Morgan The class of 1943 is a talented and resourceful group. Among the class officers we find a youth who has distinguished himself in the fields of football and basketballg a number of other Sophomores responded to the call of the athletic coaches and showed fine ability and willingness to cooperate. Another group showed their dramatic abilities in a play given at assemblyg three others were elected to the Student Councilg and a large number of Sopho- mores make the Honor Roll each quarter. After reviewing all our abilities, we are inclined to say that the Sophomore Class shows great promise. May the teachers be as proud of the class of '43 as they are of the present graduating class. SIMON+E MOREAU l43l ff A, Q J X ' ! ' Z Z Z ? I 7 4 W 1401 , ZWQQZ X Z f ATHLETICS Football-Central Falls was represented in the newly formed Eastern Di- vision of Class B by an aggressive, Veteran team. Despite the lack of material, Coach Landry, in his second year at the helm, moulded an eleven whose strong bid for the championship fell short by the smallest of margins, and whose play throughout the campaign left little to be desired. Among the brighest stars of the squad were several seniors: Boardman, Steere, Dzierzyc, Sherry, Kenny and Moore. Although outplaying our opponents, a last minute Classical drive turned apparent victory into defeat by a single point in our first game. Such an unfort- unate beginning failed to dim the team's spirit and it bounced back to win five out of the remaining seven games. The most notable of these 'victories were those registered over St. Raphael and Westerly. The St. Raphael victory was especially significant as it broke a string of five years without a triumph over our arch-rival. Basketball-For the first time in several years Central Falls had an inexperi- enced squad due to the graduation of former luminaries. What we may have lacked in experience, however, was made up in speed and determination. The team played as a unit all the way through and although hampered by a poor start. a strong finish carried it to the top of its respective division. Kaplan and Steere finished up their high school careers by making their last season their best. The playoffs for the divisional crown, which followed immediately on the heels of the gruelling schedule, found our athletes too tired to put up their usual fight, al- though what fight they did present was worthy of a better fate. Most brilliant of the victories were those over Woonsocket, Aldrich, St. Raphael and Westerly. Baseball- With the loss of six regulars from last year's squad we entertain no pennant hopes, although the boys are very enthusiastic and shouldn't be too bad, said Coach Landry prior to the beginning of the '41 schedule. Coach Landry was faced with the difficult task of building up a new infield and pitching staff. In view of the fact that C. F. fielded a team with only three holdovers, the chances of a successful campaign rested on newer faces. But whether our team won or lost Central Falls always put up a strong fight. oiegwfiit T l50l BASKETBALL TEAM Front row Lleft to rightl l.aPlantQ. Racquer. C0lllU1lll!:j Michalenka. Heller. CHEER LEADERS UP-TO-DATE Girl cheer leaders for Central Falls High School made their initial appear- ance in l94l. Their career began as the result of a school notice asking all girls interested in becoming cheer leaders to attend a meeting. Approximately forty girls presented themselves. Finally four girls were selected, all members of the class of 1942. Thanks must here be extended to the Pawtucket High cheer leaders who drilled the team in the art of cheer leading. Viola Cartwright was appointed chief cheer leader and the other three became her willing assistants. The plan, now, is to add four more to this number, making a group of eight for the l942 athletic season, It was indeed a memorable occasion when these girls made their Hrst ap- pearance in a Central Falls High assembly and led a cheering rally preceding the St. Raphael basketball game: and Ha never-to-be-forgotten night was that on which the Central ,Falls girls made their debut at this game. Factors of great importance for their success as cheer leaders, are their strik- ing uniforms. These consist of red jerkins with White felt letters, blue skirts, and white blouses. It is hoped that this precedent established in 1941 will become an honored tradition for Central Falls High School in the future. l5ll I' 2' f x, .ef 1 Y i 'NX X Wif 3332 ZXEANQQS X J U! OBSERVER The Observer, the high school pu.blication, is a four page journal, con- sisting of school news, editorials, literary articles, an eavesdropper and Jokes. It is published by a board made up of editors and reporters and is under the direction of Miss Bott. The purpose of the Observer is not so much to be a newspaper, as to be one of the school souvenirs to which a graduate can turn in later years to freshen up old memories. LATIN CLUB The Latin Club really has some accomplishments of which to boast in this the fourth year of its organization. The club published a twenty-four page Christmas newspaper written entirely in Latin. Two food sales were held which financed the Club's section in the year book and made possible a trip to Boston during the April vacation. In Boston, the Club members visited the Museum of Fine Arts and the Agassiz Museum in Harvard University. Maybe they're playing for the football game today, or leading a parade honoring the town's most eminent citizen, or just giving the home folks an eyeful. I Through years of practice the Central Falls High School Band has merged its individualities into one. Its members have learned lessons that will last them through life,-to play together, march together, work together. In March of this year the Lockwood Band united with the Central Falls Band for the annual concert. One of the features of this concert was the ap'- pearance of a group of baton twirlers organized by band director J. Edwin Con- ley. Likewise, Central Falls joins with other bands in presenting concerts outside the city. A yearly event anticipated by Central Falls band members is the presenta-- tion of band medals to the Seniors of the group. l56l Al 62-3 'it Y ir 1, F V is 5 1 -Mm WALDORF ACADEMIC GOWNS CAPS AND HOODS TO HIRE TUXEDOS FULL DRESS CENTRAL FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS RINGS AND PINS 212 Union Street, Providence, R.
