REFLECTIONS Emptiness—yet when the bell rings, pandemonium. Our own Alma Mater, Central High, did not come into existence by the mere waving of a fairy ' s wand, nor did the addition of our four new classrooms appear this way. Through the designs, dreams, and plans of man aided by nature ' s gifts, such as the clay for the bricks, came the structure we know as our school. The traditions surrounding the original building, combined with the new classrooms, joinforces to produce the CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IMAGE. It is the privilege of the 1965 Spartan Staff to present this image and its memories to the students, patrons, and teachers of our school. May you see your reflection in the mirror of events taking place during this school year. Our Excursions Into ll • mm IMVKi ' An experiment in balancing forces is one part of the many intricate facets of knowledge and information that a student must absorb. Friendships Magic moments were ours when we met in the gaily de corate d gym for dances. Punch and mints often revived the dancers as they cha-chad, twisted, or jerked. Our beauty queens, too, as part of our social section, represented the school well. The Homecoming Dance climaxed a 34—6 victory over Denton. Miss Veterans Day Representative Melinda Foster Miss Merry Christmas Teresa Jones Athletically Speaking Hey! What ' s the idea? The athletic phase of our school offers a year-round panorama of sounds—the brutish thump of pads and bodies, the clamor of racing feet on the hardwood, and the crowd¬ pleasing crack when bat meets ball. All of these sounds are mirrored in the blurred motion of the athletes. A1 Farabee drives toward the basket. Touchdown on the way, as Hobart Leonard carries. From the Beginning We Strove For a Goal The first day of school presented perplexing prob¬ lems to many of the fresh¬ men as theyhad to become accustomed to a new schedule. Examinations proved to be the indicators of how much a student had worked as he progressed on the road toward graduation. Success—The goal for which we have striven for four years. DEDICATION In recognition of his outstanding leadership in building minds and physically—fit bodies, we, the Senior Class of 1965, dedicate this e d it i on of THE SPARTAN to Mr. H. Wayne Hoover. Whether on the right—hand side of a driver ' s education car, drawing diagrams on the floor for his athletic teams, or teaching mathematics to his students, he has proved to be a friend. Even while not coaching, he could be found as a spectator urging the team on. Mr. Hoover is a well- known figure on the campus, as he conducts classes and coaches athletes. ADMINISTRATION By means of new and improved teaching meth¬ ods, the administration has achieved new dimensions in classroom training. Additions to the curriculum have also opened the door to advanced learning. Not only has this been achieved in the classroom, but in extracurricular activities as well. Many faculty members devote their limited time to sponsoring organizations. Miss Robbins talks to parents at a P. T. A. meeting. Mrs. Yarborough appre ci at e d new classroom facilities after teaching classes in part of the agriculture department. t hmumuium Our Policy Maker, The Principal Mr. Young serves as the chief organizer of our school policy. His ability to handle the problems of school life well, enables school operations to continue smoothly. 1 Mr. Patrick Harrison, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL The Administration Meeting the challenge of increased enrollment was one of the primary achievements of our administration this past year. This growth necessitated conducting many classes in the cafeteria, auditorium, and agriculture department for the first few months of school. However, with the co-operation of all, this challenge was met, and classes continued with only an occasional interruption for the convenience of the construction workers. This book represents for them many hours of hard work. Your yearbook began many months ago with the soliciting of ads to provide financial backing. Your first thoughts of the annual probably occurred when deposits were taken in September. It wasn ' t long until there was constant primping in the halls of Central High School for individual and group pictures. MACKIE FLEENOR BETH ROGERS CHARLEAN WATKINS TERESA JONES Typists 11 ! L ■ ' Mfmt k C - ■ 1 Mi E ? I s Spartan Staff While you witnessed these events, much work by the annual staff went unseen by most students. There was planning, organization, and decisions, decisions, de¬ cisions: a theme, design and color of the cover, kind of paper. There were pictures to cut, number, identify, and arrange; copy to be written, typed and proofed; bills to be sent; artwork and snapshots to be made; and a constant watch to be kept on the money. So very much goes into the production of a yearbook. There is an immense number of tasks that are little but essential. Now the little and the big tasks are done, and you hold in your hands the finished product. We hope it meets with your approval. Juniors reaped these rewards as magazine salesmen. Mr. Young presents cash awards to the top salesmen in the Mason Candy Drive sale. 82 Folly Under the Holly: Christmas O Tannebaum, OTannebaum Results of the White Christmas Drive. Let ' s dance and sing and make good cheer, For Christmas comes but once a year. - McGarren Oh, how jubilant we were when Christmas came. This spirit was manifested by the large array of food, clothing, and money contributed to the White Christmas Drive, to brighten Christmas for others. The play, A Christmas Carol, presented by the Speech and Drama students, concluded Christmas festivities before the beginning of a two-week vacation. Scenes from A Christmas Carol. 83 mam Recollections The School Committee made frequent visits in keeping up to date with school events. The Juniors will long remember being measured for thei class rings. Only the Annual Staff knows for sure. Seniors received invalu¬ able aid in filling out college applications and forms. 84 PEOPLE H v FACES - Laughing, smiling. Perplexed, confident. Hidden behind these faces were 717 students who comprised the student body of our school during 1964-1965. Each student contributed his individual personality and character- istics to form the one completed whole. Students congregated to watch intramurals. 88 Seniors Concentrate on New Horizons OFFICERS: Benny Hedrick PRESIDENT Hobart Leonard VICE-PRESIDENT Richard Grubb REPRESENTATIVE Barbara Sink SECRETARY-TREASURER Michael Plummer REPORTER MASCOTS: Tracy Cooper, Tom Huss Now the years are over, The future ' s drawing nigh.
