Their many re- sponsibilities include supervision of the facilities, organization of the school pro- gram, and the hiring of the teachers for all four schools of the Central Dauphin Jointure. A core committee fulfills the major portion of the responsibilities delegated to the Board. This group is composed of two directors from each district and also meets monthly. This Board is truly the backbone of our school system and the managing force which keeps Central Dauphin mov- ing as smoothly as it does. Supervising Principal h e DR. GVVILYM D. DAVIES it Supervising Principal Central Dauphin Schools University of Pittsburgh B.A., M.Ed., D.Ed. Life is frequently compared with a long journey. You may prefer another metaphor, but if you think of it as a iourney, the answer to one question becomes relevant above all others. Where are you going? Your thoughts will serve as a medium to get you there, for as you think you travel. You are today where your thoughts have brought you, and you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you. I hope that you have learned to think clearly and logically, that Central Dauphin has contributed to the construction of a vehicle that will carry you along life's journey from where you are to where you want to go. I0 Principals MR. OSCAR B. BALDWIN Principal Central Dauphin Albright College, B.S., Pennsylvania State University, M.Ed. It has been my good fortune to have been associated with the Central Dauphin Joint Schools since the inception of Central Dauphin High School. Over the past eight years, I have observed the unusual growth and progress whereby Cen- tral Dauphin became known throughout the area as one of the finer and most outstanding schools. There is a tremendous personal satisfaction e- volved from having a small part in the develop- ment of such a reputation. I sincerely hope you enioy a similar satisfaction. - It is our hope at Central Dauphin East High School that in the coming years we will plan and develop a program that will blend with the tra- ditionally high standards already established at Central Dauphin. To the 1962 graduation class, on behalf of the sister school, we extend our best wishes for continued growth. g Sincerely yours, X 35? xfl.-t.lsQQ.-N The planning of a new school and the fine demonstration of school spirit by all persons in- terested in education have produced a most grati- fying year. The expression school spirit is often misun- derstood. It does not mean merely proving one's ability in athletics or dramatics, but rather it means the spirit in which one enters into and supports the school and its activities. School spirit is demon- strated,by helping to build your school, not by helping to tear it down. We, by our own efforts, cannot hope to gain success. In unity there is strength +thus success can be gained by the cooperation of all within our school. The willing, cooperative student of today will be the good citizen of tomorrow. The spirit in which we work, the spirit in which we play, and the spirit in which we live will determine whether or not we, as individuals, shall be successful. Suc- cess can be gained only by earnest efforts and cooperation. This is the true meaning of schooI spirit. walk MR. JOHN W. Our Student Council fulfills a need for understanding among the student body, faculty and administration. At bi-weekly meetings, the Council airs com- plaints of students, discusses improvements for the school, and fosters concern for an active and useful student life. The Council is advised by Mr. Wharton Bittle. Each homeroom is represented on the Council, comprising a membership of forty-five members. Central Dauphin was represented this year at the local convention of Student Councils. The Council also promoted the Annual Youth Festival, sponsored the Charity Drive, and co-sponsored Homecoming. Operating the Student Complaint Committee, devising a school Code of Ethics, and helping to plan cafeteria meals were a few of the Council's functions this year. OFFICERS: Mr. Bittle fAdvisorJ, T. The Rams have now won 36 out of their last 40 games. Their initial appearance of the year was against Cedar Cliff. The Rams overpowered the Colts 31 -O. Ken Dykes and Jerry Angell, in a preview of things to come, gained a total of 441 yards rushing. The next game, also at home, with the Lebanon Cedars was an overwhelming victory for the Rams. C.D. gained a total of 469 yards rushing, although handicapped by 65 yards in penalties: the score, 40-O. In a hot Saturday afternoon game with the William Penn Tigers, the previously unscored upon Rams turned a predicted battle of giants into a murderous rout. The highly touted Tigers scored once whereas the Rams tallied in every quarter to win 34-6. In a stubborn home battle with a fired-up Bishop McDevitt team the Rams trailed for the only time in the season, but only tempor- arily. In the second half Dykes and Angell went to work on the Crusader line and ground out 195 yards to give C.D. a 20-13 victory. In their fourth appearance at Rams' Field, C.D. proved too much for Steelton-Highspire and ended the Steamrollers undefeated season by a 26-12 count. Friday the 13th is traditionally an unlucky day, it was this year for Carlisle. The undefeated Thundering Herd hosted the Rams and ended up on the bottom of a 21-6 score. Outstanding in the game were ends, Frank Vukmanic and Bob Megonnell, who caught touchdown passes from quarterback Meade Johnson. The Green and White had an easy week at Susquehanna where they demolished the winless Indians 45-O. At Hershey a fired-up opposition contained the Rams for the first half but couldn't pre- vent an eventual 27-O clobbering. At Homecoming the following week, the Rams outscored Middletown 32-6. ln the finale at York, the whole club played brilliantly to beat York 33-14 and complete their undefeated season. 84 TRAINERS: Bob Schreckengaust and Speed Ebersole. This was followed how- ever by a defeat at the hands of Carlisle's Thundering Herd. Next on the agenda came Bishop McDevitt, which proved to be a real Thriller all the way Through with the Rams on top at the end, 47-45. On went the Rams to rack up two more victories over Middletown and Lower Dauphin. Once in league competition things got a little tougher for our boys and they suffered three straight defeats. The first came from John Harris to the tone of 62-54, followed by Reading 55-27, and York 51-36. ln the next game they squeezed by Cedar Cliff 55-54, and then dropped another one to William Penn. Then, however, came a much desired change with the Rams piling up three straight wins. The Cedars of Lebanon were first to go down by an 18 point margin. Wrestling is fast becoming a very popular high school sport. Central Dauphin is no exception. Our team presented us with a season packed with excitement and hard won battles. Under the coaching of Mr. John Kreamer, our boys wrestled their way to a season 'ally of 9-4-l with a leagpe record of 6-4-l. Our captain, George Cunningham headed our rough and ready Rams. George, better known as Skip, is one of the four Seniors on our 13 man varsity team, not forgetting our undefeated 95 pound senior, Gary Hunter. Our other two seniors, Keith Hand and 'Bill Beaver, contributed many points to increase our winning scores. This is a well-known cheer here at C.D., and our teams gave us something to cheer about. But who really added the spirit to the games? Why, the cheerleaders, ot course. Our cheerleaders played an important part in our success in sports. Chosen from the iunior and senior classes, the varsity cheered at all varsity games. The junior varsity, juniors and sophomores, led the cheers during the J.V. games. A new feature this year is our boy cheerleadersH Rebel Wingfield and Larry Bashore. Both squads did a splendid job. Our girls this 'year met that same stumbling stone That darn old Nlechanicsburg iust won't let them alone. A H10 The Senior Class lt's almost incredible that we've finally ended our years at Central Dauphin, nevermore to call her hallowed halls home. We do, however, have many mem- ories of these wonderful years to look back on. Time flashes back to 1959 and the beginning of our sophomore year. Our first duty was to elect class officers. Andrew Zimmerman was chosen president, John Fritchey, vice-president, Sue Martin, secretary, Donna Dietrich, treasurer, and Jill Spohn, historian. We were the first class to sell Christmas cards as a class proiect, and we also initiated the Sophomore Party. As juniors we worked diligently. This year's officers were president, Andrew Zimmerman, vice-president, Edward McBreen, secretary, Carole Zimmerman, treas- urer, Maria Wood, and historian, Jill Spohn. On November 18, 1960, we pre- sented our iunior class play Father's Been to Mars, which proved to be the most successful play in the school's history. Another first was the '62 Newsletter, a paper which kept us informed of class news. Several of our classmates were heralded for their achievements, Steve Schrechengaust was nominated to the Big 33, Cheryl Butterfield and Carl Serbell were Merit Scholarship semi-finalists, and Andrew Zimmerman was chosen Student Ambassador to England by the Colonial Park Rotary Club. We also selected our class motto Ducimus Ceteri Sequuntur CWe lead, others follow.J, class colors, gold and white, and class flower, the carnation. The climax of the year was our prom Paradise in the Deep held for the seniors, which was a wonderful ending to a wonderful year. Then, returning as seniors, we were more eager to work. 1961 started per- fectly with an undefeated football season bringing Big 33 nominations to Steve Scheckengaust, Ken Dykes, Tom Haverstock, Meade Johnson, Jerry Angell, and Calvin Ritter. The Christmas dance Winter Fantasy was an unusually exciting and successful evening. Judy Chronister was named Good Citizen by the Daughters of the American Revolution. On March 2, 1962, our senior play Caught in the VilIain's Web was presented. Our prom, given by the juniors, was an event which we will remember for the rest of our lives. Nevertheless, the most important event of our years at Central Dauphin was graduation itself as we entered the world, diplomas in hand, with a promise of success for the future. MEADE JOHNSON Virgo-the Girl An outstanding athlete, Meade has been sports.minded since his soph- omore year. Whether football, bas- ketball, or baseball, he is sure to do a good iob. This year's co-captain, Meade and the boys went all the way to victory, which secured him a nomination to Big 33. This ener- getic man will be missed in sports at Central Dauphin. The Junior Class September of T960 introduced the Class of '63 as sophomores to Central Dauphin. This was our first experience as high school students, and we were faced with choosing our class officers to lead us throughout the year. Douglas Shaffer was selected president, Harvey Martin, vice-president, Jane Lewis, secre- tary, Gloria Shuler, treasurer, and Susan Seigler, historian. Our only project for the year was the sale of Christmas cards, which was successful. ln September, l96l, we returned to Central Dauphin as juniors. More edu- cated and aware of the duties of our class, we again undertook the election of of- ficers. This year Robert Gaylor was our choice for president. Other officers were vice-president, William Hildebrand, secretary, Nikki Knerr, treasurer, Donna Smith, and historian, Susan Seigler. Our class was well represented in many activities. The undefeated football team contained several juniors. The band, bandfront, and cheerleaders, as well as other clubs, had many energetic juniors among their ranks. We had many participants in winter and spring sports, too. The National Honor Society accepted many of our members. We were the first class to have an Honor Group, and many of our students ranked high in competition with other schools. The class play, The Boy Who Changed The World, proved entertaining and profit- able. Our year was concluded with the Junior-Senior Prom at the Hershey Starlight Ballroom. It was an exciting evening for all who attended. Next year we'll return as seniors to lead the way for our underclassmen. l JUNIOR EXECUTIVE COUNClLfFirst row: L. Smith, K. Binkley, C. Dugan, L.
