The 1963 golf team, under the direction of Mr. Daniel Wilbert, completed their first season of competition with 3 wins and ll loses. East began the season with adisheartening loss to Central Dauphin, 17-3, followed by a 20-0 shut-out to York. The team then scored victories over Willian Penn and Susquehanna. After several defeats East's final victory came over John Harris. Bob Gray was the team's most consistent top golfer, but all of the boys gained valuable experience for 1964. The 1963 track team, coached by Mr. Karl and Mr. Moravetz, experienced an O and 6 season record. Although the record and the individual meet scores were not en- couraging, the Panthers, with all team members returning, could hold brighter hope for 1964. The East-men werenot participating in league com- petition since this was East's first year to field a track team. Their opening meet of the season was an exhibition meet with Elizabethtown in which the Panthers met defeat. After a series of losses, the greatly improved team closed the season with a disappointing loss to Middletown, 66-52. East McDevitt 4 Led by pitching aces Bob Fritz and Dan Semic East Middletown 3 and reinforced by the big bats of Skip Foultz East Susquehanna 3 and Stan Robinson, the Panthers split the sta- East Central Dauphin 2 tistics' column at 7 wins, 7 losses, with no East LOW91'D3UDhiU 11 games tied. The consistent hitting ability of East McDevitt 1 right-fielder Ron Jones and a strong bench East Susquehanna - 0 remained valuable assets throughout the base- East Central Dauphin 10 ball year. During the turbulant season such East Middletown 0 highlights appeared as Semic's 14 strike-outs East Lower Dauphin 6 against Bishop McDevitt, Stan Robinson's two East MCDeViff 5 homers in a single game, and Barry Seace's East Middletown 6 home-run belt into right field to clinch the Middletown game, 12-8. The second base spot was shifted about between Kim Frankford, Don Rhine, and Fred Hoover, and the outfield was provided with the strength of Don Snyder. Bill Hammell caught the regular season and batted clean-up spot. The Panthers began the season withavictory over arch rival Central Dauphin and finished the Competition by pounding McDevitt 6-4 and barely getting nipped by Middletown 6-5. -4' QL R SJ 3 NE ' .
