PRESIDENTS MESSAGE To the Class of l944: As these lines are being written, I am reminded of the fact that our nation is engaged in a great world war, and of the great part the students and graduates of former years are playing in the winning of this war. Some have made the supreme sacrifice and they will not return to the homes and friends they have loved and cherished. Others will return broken in body and in spirit while still others will have a new vision of the world, their country, and their community when they come back. They will need help in becoming adjusted to this new and strange environment. These young men and young women are intensely interested in our college. We are all parts of a great institution in which they have faith and in which they can look to with courage and confidence. They look to us to carry on to the best of our ability in this hour of great crisis. We must not let them downl Today, I am also reminded of the thousands of graduates who have entered the classrooms all through the years. These teachers have prepared many of the young men and young women who are now serving their na- tion on land, on sea, and in the air. They, too, have served the nation, they will continue to serve in peace or in war. Astyou now go forth toserve, let us recall the great contribution of those who have gone before you. May the welfare of others ever be upper- most in your minds and hearts. May you find abundant joy and success in your work. DEDICATION Our college career .... the labyrinthine hallways are lined with sta- tues and as we wend our way, in retrospect, we seem to have borrowed a chip from each old block. These are the philosophers . . . the teachers of life. In this present era of crisis when thought is deeper and more search- ing, it is to them that we turn. Perhaps, these monuments of a yesteryear, combined with the ever increasing knowledge of today, will unfold the enigma and resolve a formula for happiness. The Arts and Sciences . . Gardner, Geise, and Buck .... become our bibles and thus fortified, we will continue our journey of life .... Excelsior! ga.
