All the honey a busy bee gathers in its lifetime doesn't sweeten its sting. A sense of humour is a shock-absorber that will save you from many a cruel Jolt in life. Life seems to be one dull round for the man who always has an axe to grind. Acting Without thinking is like shooting Without aiming. Don't turn your back on troubles, face them squarely. No man benefits himself permanently by injuring others. The man who does his best is a success whether the world thinks so or not. Real happiness is cheap enough yet how dearly We pay for the falsehkind. Laugh, and the class laughs with you, but you serve the detention alone. The YE FLAME staff Wishes to extend its most appreciative thanks to the Safeway Stores and Capital Grocery for their donations to this Annual. 120 '

FOREWCDRD ln Retrospect and prospect It is indeed an honor to be allowed to write a foreword for your special annual, Twenty-Eve Years of Progressng an honor more especially pleasing to me in view of the fact that I have been away from the school for more than twenty years. It was in 1905Mthe year which saw the birth of the province of Saskatchewan-that I joined the staff of the High School. The staff consisted of the Principal, Mr. R. D. McMurchy, Miss E. D. Cathro and myself and the student body was about sixty in number. At that time the High School occupied part of the school building on the site where now stands one of Regina's largest stores. The new Central Collegiate was opened in 1909 to provide accommodation for tfie steadily increasing number of students. In the spring of 1913 when I severed my connection .- with the school, the staff had l ,izi I' A Q grown to twelve in number I .i11:ii'fff2i1i.l5.Q5gigigis5s5i1: and the student body exceeded three hundred. gjjfjffi: .'ifIijgjjjjfiijEifQfi 1 f iiiifiwg The success of the school 5 was due to the vision and I 'A iiiiSCiiiSii fiCV0ii0ii Oi iiiff iiiifii E' who comprised the Board of T Tiiififflegv fe the Outstanding 3.55. rr:-2 -.-.- .f.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-....,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,. : ,,I,Z.,...:.:.:.:.:.,.:.:.:.,.:.:. ,.,.:.,.:.: .-.- 1 fgbility Of thg t,Q3,ghQ1'5 aulgng 8 , g A. .H 4 e ,R . I So much in retrospect. To those who are about to graduate now or in the near future, I would say that yours is a great opportunity. As we emerge from the present depression it is conceded that the younger countries such as our Dominion will enjoy the greatest measure of prosperity. You are entering life at a time when you may take advantage of that opportunity. HECTOR LANG, B.A. 3
