These events will ollways be remembered. but lets take a look back to the season one more time. Wasn't there something else happening at the games that was just as excting as the score? Sure there was there was, the excitement was on the Bison Benchl The gitls who were not playlng at the time. were on the bench yelling and hollering out praise and encouragement. The girls on the bench were there for their team, not only to go in and relieve the players that needed a break but lend support and keep the team excited. The girls on the bench really helped me through the times when I wasn't playing my best or the team wasn't playing well. It would be so easy just to let down and give up but they were always there to keep us excited commented Amie Ummel. Sometimes the excitement on the bench bubbles over and explodes out onto the playing floor. Like the time that Missy Marco convinced her favorite teferee to give her a technical foul for being to loud on the bench. Try to imagine what being on a basketball team without the people on the bench would be like. Everyone would have to play the whole game. without a break, there wouldn't be any competition for playing time so no one would push you and make you a better player. During a game If you started to get down on yourself, there wouldn't be anyone there to keep you going. That would not be fun way to play basketball. The bench Is an important part of the team and Is allways the tlrst to be joked about or forgotten. It would be a big mistake to forget the bench, without them the team couldn't be successful. Missy Marco shows us some awesome power while maneuvering inside for two. Taking control easily from the outside, Amy Dearking shoots and raises havoc for the opposition. When asked how they got psyched up, the reply was, it's natural, you automatically do. Other ways include: being by themselves, thinking about the game, relaxing, listening to music and playing snooker to pass the time. Right before a game however, the team discusses their opponents. They decide who to watch carefully, who to let shoot and who not to let shoot. Any way you look at it, competition can be tough. But the change in date was not the only change that had to be made. The Girls 4-800 Meter Relay Team had to compete in Omaha the next morning by 9:00, so they needed to go to Omaha Thursday evening Mr. Huggett tried to ease the strain by scheduling the girls involved with the State Track Meet to receive their honors first so that they could leave before the rest of the honors had been announced This was not a typical Honors Night, but the feeling of accomplishment was felt by all included. just the same.
