Clwum Music l Music! Every weekday, Room 208 came alive during fourth period. The struggling and adventurous hour and a half consisted of Mr. Hatt leading an 80 mem- ber chorus to near perfection. It all had paid off though. The chorus gave a very successful Christ- mas concert. And at District Music Contest in Kear- ney they earned nine superiors out of eleven entries. A new and different experience for the chorus began in March. June Schock of Hastings College represented a part of music that was basically unfa- miliar to the senior high's music students. Opera was reborn during fourth period. After her three week stay, students could appreciate and under- stand the opera to a higher degree than before. In April, ttThe Bartered Bride was performed at the Omaha Orpheum Theater. The chorus attended the opera after the invitation by Mrs. Schock who was a cast member. The matinee for students only, turned out to be a full house. And thanks to Mrs. Schock, Opera has a more significant meaning to the music students. Music ! This year Central City's music department went in a different direction. They put on two delightful musical comedies, The Telephone and So This Is Paris. The first was a new experience for most because it only had a cast of two and was an opera. Alicia Johnston and Dave Erickson portrayed Lucy and Ben. The telephone is the villain of the opera. Its continual ringing frustrates the attempt of a young lover to propose to his sweetheart. At last he rushes out of her living room to the phone booth. Her telephone rings again. It is her lover proposing by phone! So This Is Paris is a comedy of six girls visiting Paris and how they find new adventures and even love. Dawn Penney portrayed Carol who falls in love with Paul tBrian Davis; Debbie tKelly Hedgesy meets Bob tRon Senkbiley and becomes totally frus- trated because he's American. Carol's parents tRobi Nedrig and Brent Kennedyy come to Paris out of worry for their daughter, and complicate the situ- ation even more. The result is a perfect musical comedy. 85 1st Row: Ana Alarcon, Pam Potrzeba, Kathy Mason, Trudy Howard, Tricia Farr, Jill Galusha, Laurie Craft, Janet Denning, Tracey Peter sen, Becky Betts, Cindy Abernathy, Jeannie Boelts. 2nd Row: Deb Kuck, Teri Kuhn, Cindy Pullen, Kerry Mason, Marilyn King, Karolee Gleason, Kris Held, Cindy Hostetler.
