The old walls will not be seen by Senior High School students anymore. There are many memories of fall- en plaster, slouch day, stuffed cubicles, and countless others that we wonk forget. The old clock in study hall that never ran right, the smell ofchem- istry experiments, and running through the halls on the last day ofschool, are things of the past but they are things we wonTt forget. meclm HZMUZHHZH cf: 1, Assessment of American education is today a matter of public concern. Debate on educational issues is not new in America. The current debate, how- ever, is animated by a new spirit of urgency due to an unprecedented forebod- . ing about the future and an unprecedented awareness of human potential for progress. Manis destiny appears to depend upon our acquisition and use of knowledge. Public concern is based upon a new sense of the relationship be- tween the quality of education and the future of America. E I V 2 Hi S '65 ; s O ; A h, r; c1 i N G Hikxilj- ,, 4 x E K P; , h i ---.. The best education is that which does most to enable each student to de- velop his abilities and to serve society. Education must therefore be appropri- ate to the needs ofeach pupil and to the needs ofsociety. Students are individu- als, student bodies are constantly renewed, and society is everchanging. It fol- lows then, that education must be dynamic and diverse. High quality in educa- tion implies never-ending adaptation and improvement. Thus the taproot of quality in a school is vigorous public commitment to education based on un- derstanding of what education can do and what good schools are like. a...v-M! . One question students often ask is how members ofthe National Honor Society are chosen. First, a committee offaculty members decides which candidates meet the basic requirement of an 85 average. The faculty then rates the candidates on scholarship, leadership, character, and service. From these ratings, the new members are elected. The number ofmcmbers each class is allowed is determined as a percentage ofthe number in each class: 1570 ofthe Senior class and 1070 oftheJunior class may be chosen as members, and 570 of the Sophomore class may be chosen as provisional members.
