Butwa realize their importance i and would like to give them the recognition they deserve. i To this end we, the staff, dedicatethis, the 1967 BISON, to the students--past, present, and future--of Central City High School. Superiniendeni's Message There are two forces at work in the world today concerning education. There is the conflict between education for all children and of all people, and the philosophy of successful management of educational careers of some children. America today is engaged in an experiment of educating all citizens on the basis of equal entitlement, because they are individuals. The unique American system of universal education and equal opportunity when added to motivation assists individuals in discovering a particular philosophy. We hold to the belief that talent is a function of birth and that achievement is a function of birth and educational opportunity. It is on this premise that the American society leads us to our present day educational objectives. Our schools with all the knowledge that they may impart will prove ineffectual unless there is a climate in which this philosophy may prevail. For this reason, then, the fundamental objective in our educational systems in America is to develop a wholesome and worthwhile personality. Every class must contribute to more than just curriculum offerings -- it must include experiences and lessons in human values. Since life in ,general emerges as a by-ptoduct of an adequate philosophy, all the wealth at a person's disposal, and all the knowledge that the halls of learning may impart are only as good as the climate in which they are worthy of emulation. w' '1 1' R e... Hhshumental Music Through the efforts of the community, parents, Mr. Crandell, school officials, and students new uniforms were made available for the band. Many activities filled the band calendar this past year. The band visited the Nebraska State Fair where the group participated in a parade on the grounds. The band also participated in Band Days at both Kearney and Lincoln. While there, they paraded in the cities' downtown area and perform- ed at the halftime of the football games. Central City attended the Band Clinic held at Albion on February 5, 1967. The Albion, Aurora, Fullerton, 0rd, and Central City bands participated in this annual event. Guest conductor for the group Was Mr. Jack Snyder of the University of Nebraska. Central City was represented by eleven entries in the annual music contest at Albion, April 20-22. Vacan Music The vocal music department again made its home in the former Vocational Agriculture room. Here, unger Mr. Cunningham's able direction, the gradual process of training young voices to concert- performance pitch goes on. Long hours of preparation in the fall led to the debut of the Mixed Chorus, Girl's Glee and various ensembles in the Christmas Concert. This along with the presentation of the musical, 'Lil Abner, marked the highlights of the music activities for the year. Because of the musical, 'Lil Abner, which was sponsored by the Vocal Music Department, few singing groups were sent to contest. Those that did participate received excellent ratings. Chadron State College; Advanced Study University of Nebraska STUDENTS AS THEY ARE Whether you are short or tall, boy or girl, rich or poor, you have a wealth of pos- sibilities, but maybe up to this time you have lacked a definite aim. You have a gun and plenty of ammunition. Now I dare you to aim at something worthy of the best that is in you. An inner growth and a broadening personality results from daring and sharing. You dare to use the talents you have and you will find yourself growing stronger physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. You multiply your daring a hundred-fold by sharing its fruits. As expressed in life's principle: Our most valuable possessions are those which can be shared without lessening; those which, when shared multiply. Our least valuable possessions are those which, when di- vided, are diminished. MR. R. ANDERSON - Business - B. S. North- west Missouri State, Adv. Study University of Nebraska MR. S. EQUALL - Vo.
