TO NELLE CONNELL FRY If, I; A . y h XVJI h 3v o A lady with a lamp shall stand , t . wt R f In the great history of the land, A noble type of good - Heroic womanhood. . M f: 1;. I --Longfellow UPON YOUR HOLDING THE LAMP OF KNOWLEDGE You've held the lamp throughout the years To light the path which conquers fears; And so to you we bring our cheers, For you have done your best. You've counseled well, and so we know The path you've lighted still will show, E'en though the winds of falsehood blow, Yet truth shall stand the test ; Because you 've led us through the maze We lift our songs in highest praise, And thus our tributes do we raise As we launch out with zest. Since you have watched just how we grew, We now direct our praise to you; Accept our thoughts sincere and true --God shall supply the rest. $ ZACQWWWEg FIRST ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: D. Sawyers, L. Combining the voices of fifty-one men and women into one sound takes times and patience, but it is a rewarding experience as these people will testify. The first public performance came as a Christmas Vespers, a program made up of Christmas songs. Highlights of the second semester included a trip to Albion where the group took part in the Vocal Clinic under the direction of Dr. David Foltz. w Following this, five weeks of hard work brought them to the production of Sweethearts with two en- W joyable performances on March 17th and 18th. This was a record of achievement for the dramatic: department of our high school. Twenty members of the class of '61 made up the charter r011 having earned 10 or more points in dramatic Showmanship with either stage or backstage work. The official initiation for these twenty persons was held on the evening of March 24, 1961. Following the production of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, 33 additional members were initiated at the annual banquet on May 18, 1961. The National Thespian Society is dedicated to the advancement of the various forms of theatrical arts in the secondary schools. It was established in 1929 and is composed of troupes in schools throughout the country. It is an honorary organization only in the sense that students are given recognition for having met certain standards and requirements. The motto is. Act well your part; there all the honor lies. Mem- bership comes to anyone who has earned 10 points according to a national rating scale. Upon receiving 20 points one becomes a one-star Thespian, and can reach the coveted rank of an Honor Thespian with the earning of 60 points. Chgspialxzs 25 - -v... w .. v; . - - .: x A ' 7 n q :- ..
