They rode in two busses and after some struggle they both made the short journey. Their first stop was at Wahoo, where they had their breakfast, After breakfast they started on their way again and arrived at their destination a little after nine o'clock. The kitty Clover Plant was seen on their first tour, Free bags of potato chips were given to every member of the tour, The next stop was at Boys' Town. Here they went through their beautiful chapel, arts building, and gym, By the time they were finished there everyone was ready for dinner, so they ate at Bishops Cafeteria in downtown Omaha. At two-thirty p, m, they all met at the W.O.W. building, where they went on a very interesting tour, Souvenirs were given to all the seniors. From three o'clock until ten in the evening they were al- lowed to do whatever they pleased. Some went shopping. others took in a show, while some just enjoyed themselves by riding up and down the escalators, Sneak day is one day l'm sure they will all remember, They wish to extend a hearty thanks to Miss Widman and Mr, Wilson, their two wonderful sponsors. Their first showing was at the State Fair in Lincoln on September 6, Later the band took its annual trip to Hastings College to participate in the Melody Round-up. Shortly thereafter, because of hard work and splendid co-operation they received a superior rating at the annual Grand Island Harvest of Harmony, The band chose Donna Drake to represent them as queen candidate, The band marched at most of the football games and furnished 'pep-in-music' at rallies, fab' Q -pa, '9 1 1-Q1 'X 1 , '1 Q . Mcl-largue, Gillham and Condon each crossed the goal line once to account for the Bison scores. Matthes led the Central City defense with six tackles. Returning to their home field Al Bahe's boys won a hard fought battle against the Warriors of Fullerton, 13-0, Ron Gillham sparked the Bison in the second half, scoring 12 of the 13 points. Marty Miller made the other on a place kick. Once more Central City outplayed their opponents leading in yards 296-71, and in downs 17-3. The Chanticleers of Ord offered stiff competition for the first half before falling to the stubborn Bison 24-6, For the first time in the '56 season Central was behind when Ord grabbed a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. Quarterback, Terry McHargue, led the Bison attack by throwing two touchdowns to Orvis Larsen and scoring another, This duo ate up 136 yards alone on passing. Roy Matthes topped the Bison defense with 17 saves. Ravenna's Bluejays offered no competition to the Bison as Central City romped over their opponents 44-12. Leading the scoring attack was Mc!-iargue with 18 points, Ravenna outdowned Central but the Bison led in rushing, with 319 yards to 86 for the Bluejays. Central then moved to their home field and won easily 45-0 over the Albion Cardinals, The Bison outdowned Albion 13-3 and outrushed them 398 yards to 102. As usual, McHargue was the BiS0n Spark- plug as he passed and ran the team to victory. Traveling to Aurora, Central City edged their traditional rivals 14-0. This was the sixth straight year Central has come out on top. The two teams battled each other to a standstill in the first half in a very close struggle. Following the first half pattern, neither team scored, until late in the third quarter, Ralph Condon, junior halfback, plunged across from the one. Late in the last quarter Condon again banged over from the one to ice the game for the Bison. in' A-At TOM McMAHON DWAYNE NELSON CLARENCE STUART LARRY ROSCOE Senior Guard Senior Tackle Senior Center Senior Halfback Two Year Letterman Two Year Letterman One Year Letterman One Year Letterman arszky QS ua For the first time of the season, Centra1's Bison tasted defeat as the Whippets of Minden edged by them 8-7 in the last few minutes of play. The first period passed by scoreless as the two teams fought each other to a standstill. In the second period the Minden team struck for a quick touchdown to lead 6-0. Central matched them minutes later as Roger Roscoe scored from the one, Chesley gave Central the lead as he gathered in a short pass for the extra point. The half ended with the Bison in command. Neither team could get much drive going in the third period, Late in the final period a Minden linebacker caught a Central man in the end zone for a two point safety, Central fought back hard but ran out of time. Roger Hanke and Don I-lenne led the Green and white defense with eight tackles each. Central hit their season's low the next week as they bowed 33-19 to the Bluejays of Seward. The Bi- son played a dismal game as they were behind all the way. Dean Chesley turned in one of the better Bi- son efforts of the night as he turned in nine tackles. Traveling next to David City the Bison climaxed the season with a 58-6 victory over the Scouts. Al Bahe swept the bench as everyone got into the game. A Mcl-largue to Larsen pass started the scoring early ir1 the game. This combination accounted for four touchdowns, three from Mcl-largue to Larsen and one with the combination reversed. I im Patterson also snagged a 30-yard pass in the second quarter. Central gained a total of almost 500 yards on the ground and in the air to 184 for the Scouts, Comic relief ended the '56 Central football season as senior linemen Faeh, Matthes, l-lenne, Patterson, Nelson, and Betts tried their hand at carrying the ball much to the amusement of the fans. All in all the Green and White had their best season in more than ten years, tuming in a 6-2-1 record.
