I, w He knows all, sees all, hears all, . . golden words of wisdom spoken many centu- ries ago, are still applicable in this modern age, to our former principal, George F. Miller. He knows all. . . Mr. Miller's knowledge of student activities seemed unending. The new activities he introduced will continue to have an important place in the years to come. He sees 311. . . .Although quick to notice infractions of school rules, Mr. Miller also proved himself an accurate and fair judge of character. He hears all. . .George F. was first to hear of all triumphs and shortcomings of C.C.H.S.ers and while proud of the triumphs, he coped fairly and squarely with the shortcomings. Mr. Miller's job was not an easy one but in his fair consideration of student prob- lems, he won the admiration of both the faculty and the students And it is with the greatest appreciation that we dedicate the Central City 1955 Bison to the memory of George F. Miller. FM 8 M g...-Ll .3...,L....-.x LL...W , DONNA MAE DAMON 7am... I , ' . i f s N. . . w- A-.m .a--. .. V BARBARA ELLEN FUNK ANNE GERTRUDE DEMEL .L A13 2 xxx. x . . aw x k :9 . There were forty-seven students and two sponsors, Miss Widman and Mr. Neil. Making certain that the underclassmen would know the seniors were gone, the class sufficiently decorated the school. ' By the time the group reached Wahoo, two hours later, they were ready-to partake of a long awaited breakfast. When everyone was satiated, they boarded the bus once again for Omaha. The frrst stop was Boys' Town, where everyone marveled at the wonderful leadership and organ- ization that made such a home for boys possible. The class then set out for Swift's Packing Plant. They were divided into two groups and a guide took them through the plant. Seeing the process of turning live cattle and pigs into food at such speed and cleanliness amazed the group. The morning was concluded by lunch at the Stock Yards Cafeteria. The next stop was a guided tour through the Kitty Clover Potato Chip Company. They were impressed with the plush executive offices. The class followed the process of a potato until it became a crisp brown potato chip all sacked. At the end of the tour each person received a 4 fresh bag of potato chips. They scrambled on the bus for a ride down town at which time everyone was given four hours free time. Some of the class went shopping, others went to the show, and still others just took in the sights. A high point of the day was dinner eaten at the Town House, in the atmosphere of the Hawaiian Room. After a lovely dinner they had more free time, to go to the show or roller 4 skating. The group arrived in Central City just twenty-three hours after starting the journey, con- siderably more tired but very happy. A good time was had by all. .m' a..- -. a. . E MR. The March Band took part in State Fair, Harvest of Harmony, and Hastings Melody Round-up. They also marched at football games and provided pep-in-music at rallies. Harvest of Harmony was their only contest and here they received an excellent. They chose Joan Rasmussen to represent them as band queen. At the contest she was selected as attendant to the Harvest of Harmony Queen. The Concert Band enjoyed a very successful year. They were hosts and hostesses to the annual Central City Band Clinic. Bands from Aurora, Fullerton, 0rd and Albion braved the blizzard to come and display their talent under the baton of Donald Lentz of the University of Nebraska. When contest time came along, all the groups and soloists entered, received superiors or excellents. The climax of the contest in instrumental music came when the band was awarded a well-deserved superior. Their money-making projects included the annual magazine soliciting and the selling of food at several basketball games. Co-Editors ---------- P. Luschei, J. Roumpf Senior Editor ------------- S. The five seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, and two freshmen elected by and from the respective classes had a very successful year. Activities of the Council were many. They considered dance and party requests, finished the Freshman Handbooks and sponsored lyceums. The Student Council also sponsored a dance and had concessions for several basketball games. High attainment in all four qualities allows a junior or senior to become eligible for membership. With money earned through concessions at several basketball games, the four members and their Sponsor staged the annual scholarship banquet, carrying out an Easter theme. The year's activities were climaxed with the tapping of eight new members: Kathryn Charron, David Ferris, Joan Rasmussen, and Sandra Reimer, Seniors; and Janet Hruza, William Mesner, Phyllis Pelican, and Judy Stephenson, Juniors. The Bison were ahead at the end of the first quarter with a 13-0 lead. Gothenburg scored in the second quarter and the first half ended 13-7. The third quarter was a long one for both teams with neither team scoring. The Swedes scored again in the fourth 2 quarter and the game ended after a very grueling battle. In the second game of the sea'Son,-..and their first conference game, the Bison traveled to Fullerton. The Bison received the opening kick-off which started a down-field march of 76 yards climaxed by McHargue going around his own right end from 8 yards out. The Bison then kicked off to the Warriors who were unable to move the ball and the Bison took over. On the second play Funk scored on a 65 yard run. Both teams were held scoreless during the rest of the game and Central came home with a 13 -0 win. , The Bison next traveled to Ravenna where they racked up 40 points to beat the Bluejays 40- 13. The Bison defense held the Bluejays to a net gain of four yards. Outstanding on defense were Ohlman and Miller. t On their home field the Bison were trimmed by the 0rd Chanticleers 14-6. The Bison, to- ward the end of the first quarter, rambled to a 6-0 lead with Gillham making the touchdown. In the second quarter Ord scored on a pass and plunged for the extra point to give 0rd a half- time lead of 7-6. The third quarter was a standstill with neither team being able to move the ball. Early in the fourth quarterbr'd scored a second touchdown and the extra point, climaxing the scoring of the game. Selko and Condon were the Hefensive standouts. Mr :.2 L . . In this game Funk led the scoring attack with five touchdowns. Other members of the team scored four more making it a grand total of nine TD's. Albion scored twice with the game ending 59-13. Next the Bison, through great offensive and defensive playing, overpowered Aurora to win 35-0. Ronnie Gillham was the outstanding player of the evening, playing a great defensive and a dazzling offensive game. Central netted 486 yards compared with Aurora's 216. The Bison doubled Aurora's 8 first-downs. The Bison next traveled to Minden where they outplayed the Whippets in first downs. Central had 13 to Minden's 9, but the Bison could not hold the Whippets and they lost 39-0. Outstand- ing on defense were Condon, Larson and Johnson. The Bison were still on the road, this time to Seward. Still not over the defeat of the week before, the Bison were sluggish the first half, putting them behind at the end of the half. This woke them up and at the second half they came out full of fire. They kept closing the gap between them and Seward but ran out of time with the game ending in Seward's favor 27-25. The last game of the season was played at home with David City. David City, undefeated so far in the season, took a terrible beating. The score was 39-0 at the end of the first half and the game ended 43-0. This was one of Central's great games as the whole team looked good. The Bison had a very good season winning five games, losing three, and tying one.
