With the help of Gertrude Gealy and Raymond Stratman, sponsors, they began early but ended in the usual last minute rush of preparations. Although the long anticipated night of May 4th was a rainy one outside. the auditorium teemed with gaiety and excitement felt especially by the honored Seniors and their hosts, the Juniors. Upon entering the cave the guests were transported to Pirates Paradiseo They walked across the gangplank'frby Treasure Island and onto the ship with its gaily decorated tables, masthead and pirates flag. There they enjoyed a fine meal prepared by the mothers of the Juniors which was served by twenty waiters and waitresses chosen from the Sophomore Classo They were dressed in typical gypsy style. Mr. Walter Raecke was the principal speaker of the evening. The program was climaxed by a dance held at Riverside, nrmh w. ,e ..... ., Wm. -,..$.Q h V A x .g 5 f: x 13 xx m' Assn KN, . x x K . Junior Class Play On the eve of December 12, 1950, the Junior Class presented the sparkling comedy, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, written by Emily Kimbrough and Cornelia Skinner. 7 Jeanne Greving as Emily and Williamette Desch as Cornelia, played their roles that brough back the Roaring Twenties. The elaborate costumes, along with the snappy repartee, keep the interest at high pitch. The adventures of Cornelia and Emily take place aboard a ship en route from New York to Paris in the summer of 1923. The plot thickens by the appearance of two gay young medical internes also on the way to Paris. Many humorous incidents revolve around the safety bags that the girls' mothers made them promise them to wean The hilarious weeks in Paris were climaxed by a long sought after conference with Monsieur De la Croiz, a famous French actoro Bitterly disillusioned, when ghe realizes the actor wishes the patronage of her own actor father rather than any interest in her talent. Cornelia is stunned. Then she lapses into a clever monologue that shows her real ability. The entire cast enjoyed producing the play, and appreciated the splendid direction of Miss Edna Widman. A very credit- able performance was given. At the Harvest of Harmony. held at Grand Island, a rating of excellent was given the band. Loretta Morrison, Central's candidate, was chosen Harvest of Harmony Queen. The band also went to Lincoln for Band Day, played 3 tion- cert at Sutton, and sent two boys to State Clinic. It was strictly a defensive battle for both teams. The Bison then traveled to St. Paul where they racked up a 46e0 margin. The Bison reserves played most of the game. Playing again on their home field, the Albion Cardinals' fast charging line and evasive backfield proved too much for the Bison as Albion lowered the boom, 37-14. The Bison began to roll in the last quarter, but the attempt was squelched as time ran out. In the seasons last home game, Central combined good blocking with hard running to humble Gibbon, 19-0. The first scoring came late if: the second quarter when Malm, half- back. plunged over tackle from the three. In the second half, the Bison scored again with a pass to Lewis, end, who went forty yards to the goal, and a forty-six yard left end reverse by Steuben, halfback. The Bison played their best game of the season by downing the Seward Bluejays, 20-0a It was Centralts game all the way as Steuben, halfback, passed to Lewis, end. for two tallies and to Scholl, end, for one. The win put the Bison in a position to win the Central eight conference crown, if they could defeat David City, in the last game of the seasono A11 hopes were shattered as the David City Scouts, combined clever deception and shifty running to roll over the Bison. 19-0. ' Thus the Bison finished their best season in three years, with a five win, three loss, one tie record. In season's play, the Bison outscored their opponents one hundred and thirty- nine points to ninety-six points, with Don Glantz, fullback, taking scoring honors with forty- three points. 53 -....4r.
