LUCERNA 79 INVITES YOU TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT A CLASS 3 4 FRIENDS A MOMENT 6 7 . . .MEMORIES 8 9 ’79 hr?i . . . AN EXPERIENCE M ACTIVITIES TAKE CLOSER LOOK ACULTY — AMONG THOSE WHO CARE Frequently, annuals such as this one acknowledge certain dignitaries who are related to the school in a merely symbolic way. Bishop Grady, our five area pastors who serve on the School Board, along with Harlan Carothers, Board President have been anything but figurehead type persons. These men. in a special if often quiet way, have been present to our needs and our problems — most of the times with their sleeves rolled up, shaping policy, promoting our cause, deeply concerned about our school which they rightfully consider theirs. We literally would not exist without their active caring and we express our profound thanks. Fr. Paul J. Henry, Principal Fr. Peter Henry Holy Name Satellite Beach Harlan Carothers Fr. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH In 1914 the early families of the Palm Bay Community built this little church with their own hands and their tools and the long straight cypress timbers of the native woods And when the carpenter men had finished, the people decorated their church with greens and flowers, and they prepared the altar with homewashed cloths for their worship, and they named their church Saint Joseph’s recalling another carpenter man of long ago For decades the people walked through these doors for their daily worship, for the christenings, the joyous marriages of their children, and the visits to the peaceful little wooden church And, when each in turn was called, the others bore their dead through these doors and down the path to the resting place. Through many hours of tiresome work and diligent effort put forth by those who cared, this yearbook has become a success. I he theme “Take a Closer Look” was developed to encourage all of us to go beyond the surface, to try to capture the spirit of Central Catholic, to see the people who make it what it is. On behalf of the staff. I'd like to thank the Faculty and Administration for their cooperation, especially on the days of picture-taking and threatening deadlines. Special thanks go to Marvin Mayer of the Taylor Publishing Company for his assistance, ideas, and advice. I he hard work and dedication of Sister Pat have made the publication of this book possible and to her we give our heartfelt thanks. Debbie Karnes Editor i smst
