Uhr Mmtur glym ,Sanz IfIKB T was March and the Senlor class of the Sacred Heart Hlgh School was maklng preparatlons for graduatlon WhlCh was to take place ln the near future All were happy wlth the expectatlon and look ed forward eagerly to that eventful day That IS to say all but Mary Joyce She the brlghtest gayest and most lovmg g1rl ln the class had looked forward smce September to thls glorlous day Now all was shat tered wlth the real17at1on that she would not be able to graduate wlth the rest of the class Only three months more and although lt was a short tlme It seemed a very long one to Mary Joyce who dld not have the means to contmue Her fathers fallure was hard to beal at thxs tlme when she longed so to graduate but she could have borne lt better had not her mothel s health broken Just before her fathers trouble What httle money was left after the expenses were pa1d went to doctors for her mother s recovery whlch she real17ed was so much more valuable than her own cherlshed g1aduat1on She dld not voxce her sorrows and troubles to anyone although her heart was breakmg w1th the thoughts of It for she knew that lf she dld not keep up her spxrlts her parents would have more sorrows than they Flnal y the day came when she must tell her teachers the Slsters of the Sacred Heart that she could not contlnue her studles but must lm medlately seek employment and do what she could to help her parents The teachers offered to help her but Wlth that proud Splrlt of her father s she decl1ned thelr generous offers Wlth many and grateful thanks After many fallures she succeeded ln securlng a posltlon All went well and although her thoughts were always centered on her class and ltS graduatlon she dld her work falthfully and well and was soon offered a better and more promlslng posltlon As her motto had been SBIZB the Opportunlty she qulckly grasped this one and 1n a few short months was on the road to success ln the busmess vsorld In June Whlle the g1adL1atl0Il QXQPCISBS wele golng on lll the Church she remalned at home thlflklllg as only a broken heal ted g1rl could A year passed and wlth Marv s help hel father was able to start back ln business Hel mothel s health gradually lmplox ed now that her mmd was free flom the lestxalnt and V201 ry of financlal affans 42 wr . . , Q A ' it ' ii 7 . , , , . , , . , . . . . v .
