Uhr illmtnr Eclucatzon N THE present enllghtened stage ln the hlstory of out country the fact of a hlgh state of reflnement and culture IS attrlbuted only to Educatlon Wlth out It our country would rank as do other natlons whose delights have been the waglng of cruel wars and worshxpplng the thmgs f earth In order to achleve a hlgher and more profound knowledge Educatlon must be developed to a greater extent It must be fmanced economlcally and money expended nn a prudent manner Let us glance for a moment at the cost of the two systems of Educatlon and see 1f the results of each Justlfy the expendltures In comparlng Parochlal and Pubhc Schools expendltures the latter far exceeds the former Accordlng to the latest Statlstlcs Publxc Schools do not produce the results expected from the amount of money expend ed A detalled l1st of the expendl tures shovss that a huge amount IS spent for bulldmgs Another large ltem on the llSt IS the salarles ot the Supermtendent Asslstants Prlnclpals and Teachers On the other hand the Parochlal Schools are flnanced with onlv twentv per cent of the above mentloned sum Although th1s IS not borne by clty or state they attaln superlor re sults The courses of study are up to date and the equlpment and fac1l1t1es meet wlth the hearty ap proval of all who care to go lnto the matter deeply themselves ln stead of taklng anothers vlew on If the Parochlal Schools were operated by the cxty and the people taxed accordmgly one may venture to say wlthout hesltatlon that the very ones whose narrow bellefs are such as to support a blll to unlte the schools under the supervlslon of the government would soon reallze they are laylng a heavler burden on themselves than they Our Parochlal Schools meet exery requlrement of the State along Educatlonal l1nes In some cases they exceed the require ments showing the hlgh standard of our Schools The Amerlcan peo ple should appreclate the efforts of our Parochlal Schools whxch are savmg them m1ll1ons of dollars yearlv and turnlng out honorable and worthw cltlzens who do not love their country less because they love thelr rellglon more Eugene J George 22 . .
