This years Science Department was a little different than it had been in the years passed, there was absence of Physics and for the first time a small number of senior girls were allowed to take Advanced Biology at West Point Public. The Science Fair was also absent this year along with entries in the Wayne State and Nebraska City science fairs. But the excellence continued in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science. 28 Don’t worry Susan, it won’t bite. The judging teams place highly in state competition and also qualified for the nationals where they also did quite well. The current school year also provided quite a few activities for the girls in the local FH A chapter. Besides participating In the chapter's activities the girls also took Home Economics at West Point Public High School. Both chapters were quite active in the Sweetheart Dance which resulted in success. This always seems to happen when I get up to the boaro. Up and down the halls of our school you may hear the many footsteps that are making their way to a various number of math classes. These classes include: General Math I II, Algebra I II, Geometry, Introductory to Analysis, Advanced Math, and Consumer Math. 31 One of the many examples of violence In the classroom. The Spanish program here at Central includes Spanish I, II, III, and IV. Spanish I and II teach the students what is necessary for speaking, understand- ing, reading, writing, and using the basic Spanish language. The third level is designed to further the fundamental skills in lan- guage use, to provide opportunity for self- expression in speaking and writing and to provide materials to meet the students’ needs. At the Spanish IV level the stu- dents have the Spanish grammar mastered so they study Spanish culture and Spanish literature in depth. ‘‘After four years of Spanish I’ve finally learned what “Patty Is my “fairy best amiga. I always wanted to be able to say: ‘Hey good lookin’, what ya got cookin’ ” 32 “All right, who switched all my keys around?' The busy beavers of the business world are usually quite occupied on the third floor in the typing room. And if this not their location, they are probably using their fast little fingers on their calculators to compute their most recent account- ing assignment. With the continued effort of both the students and the teachers our business department will continue to produce exceptional prospects for the outer business world. Diane, a member of the “Roman Hands “How do you spell “boar”? and Russian Fingers Club.” 33 The religion program in our school provides the essential basics needed to build a good Christian faith. All four of the classes taught In our school are taught by qualified men and women who not only teach the values and morals of a good Christian life but also provide an example with the way they live. A new method of religious education . . .the movie theater. 34 Quick, while Sister's not looking, swipe the answer book! Maybe next week Mr. Mendllk will let you use a ball I A few more games and I’ll be ready to take on Billy Jean Klnfl.” For the first time in the history of Central Catholic, co-ed P.E. classes were conducted. Due to the small number of freshmen, the usual two classes were joined into one. Both students and teacher find the class “unusually different, but interesting!!!” Sophomores are also required to take P.E. and Health but, thankfully to some and regretfully to others, they are still in segregated classes. 35 § € C i § t i e $ It looks like World War III Is about to begin I This years Social Studies Depart- ment contained more than just history courses. It also contained classes of Family Living and Sociology. The people that took any history course of any type this year benefited from it so greatly that now they are capable of performing their own act of history. “I knew the babies didn’t come from the stork, but I never thought. . “I'm not a worldly man. why do I have to take World History?” I know that history is boring, but this is ridiculous! 11! 36 Another typical day In another typical art class. Too bad I can’t remember what It is supposed to be.” Industrial Arts is a series of courses taught at West Point High School which is made available to Central students who are interested in the fields of woods, auto mechanics, and drafting. HIGH w Acknowledgements The journalism class of 1977-78 would like to express their gratitude to all who helped us in putting together this yearbook. With this in mind, we sincerely thank the following people and businesses: Haynes-Albrecht Studio West Point News All patrons and businesses who bought ads Mr. and Mrs. Gary Broekemeier Mr. and Mrs. Justin Kane 139 WRAPPING IT ALL UP We are saving this last page for a closing to the Yearbook 1977-78. Our feelings to finish our last page are surrounded with a mixture of relief and happiness. When we started planning this edition, we wanted to improve its quality and appearance. We have met both goals with pride, and to give you, the students, a very personal look at the 1977-78 school year. As the editors of this book one of the greatest values we’ve gained was the ability to work with others. All 17 of us worked together sharing in the agreeing, disagreeing, and finally the compromising. The compromising would never have taken place without the guidance of our advisor Miss Mac, and the cooperation of the entire staff. So, WE THANK YOU! We also want to wish the future yearbook staffs THE BEST OF LUCK! 140 Yearbook editors 1977-78 9 . . ' 4 ' ' • l §; K • . 5 H.
