The reopening of school for the 1958-1959 schol- astic year unveiled a number of new faces on Central's faculty. Most outstanding among these was Brother Hugh liphrem, who had been appointed as our new director. But Brother Hugh is no stranger to Lawrence, for in his career as a Marist Brother he had already served three years on Central's faculty. He has re- ceived vast experience in education both at Fordham University, which conferred upon him a Master of Arts degree, and in Europe, where he continued his theological studies. He also possesses a thorough understanding of youth, gained through many happy years in the classroom at such schools as Central Catholic, St. Ann's Academy., and Archbishop Malloy High School. The task of directing a school the size of Central is a difficult one. lt is with the greatest sincerity, therefore, that we, the faculty and student body, wel- come Brother Hugh as principal. XVe hope that his stay here in Lawrence will be a fruitful and happy one.
