Dedication Two men look out through the same bars: One sees the mudi and one the stars. -Robert Louis Stevenson In the damp, soul-stifling closeness of war, life is very difficult to view in proper perspective. Human feelings run the whole gamut, from murky dispair to starry self-sacrifice and idealism. We graduates are not trying to fool ourselvesp we know what we're stepping into when we doft our caps and gowns. But we believe in keeping our eyes as well as our chins up. We are looking to the stars. lt is in such a spirit that we dedicate the 1945 Butoneer to twenty-three gold-star heroes who trudged long through murk and misery and mud without ever looking at it. The wonderful in- spiration and significance of their lives--and their deaths-is that each of them kept his eyes always on a star and in doing so became one.
