Sister ' s sweet face has been seen around our school for as long as any student con remember. Sister is Queen of the Library, rul- ing her vast domain with a gentle hand. What a power she has to control — from Jules Verne to Bishop Sheen — a wealth of learning, science, and amusement, the stored knowledge of the Ages. Dear Sister, we respectfully submit this book to you in gratitude for your years of selfless service and sacrifice in the true spirit of your order — to instruct the ignorant. c A T I N Miss Heighway In the past twenty years Central Catholic ' s halls have been brightened with the cheerful Miss Heighw ay. She always has a glowing smile on her face. Her delightful personality has shown through her sense of humor. In her role as teacher, she has shown many girls the virtues of fair-play and good sportsman- ship. She has shown many a newcomer to C.C. the art of making friends. Miss Heighway has always been a devoted teacher. She has placed teaching first and self last. Her love of Central Catholic has shown through in everything she has done in her life at Central Catholic. To you Miss Heighway we give our whole- hearted thanks and we hope that you spend many more years in the halls of Central Catholic High School. ' 20 ean o ( at oCcc S C catuM! ' Over the last few years a mighty force has been growing here in America, thriving and developing through self-sacrifice, love, sweat, and toil. Now a huge sprawling giant, this force is beginning to wield a powerful hand in our Nation ' s affairs, a hand that promotes morality, justice, end godliness. This giant is Cotholic Education. Little did our Catholic fathers think, when they started the first few schools, that the fruits of their labors would blossom into full magnificence and strength to carry on the Catholic Doctrines of Faith, Hope and Charity. These schools, year after year, have turned out the cream of Catholic youth who have taken important places in business, politics and in- dustry and who have brightened everything they have touched with their sincere and inspiring faith. J__Ld.I 600 We have grown from a school of barely 1,000 in the year 1940 to almost 2,000, 20 years later. Our Faculty also has changed, and with the induction of our greatly admired lay teachers, our staff has constantly been increasing. New floors hove been added to the building when it seemed more advisable to grow up than to expand out. Yes we have grown up; our school has the best moth and science program in the city. Our teams are a threat in the field and on the court. We annually take twice the amount of medals scholastically than any other school, at Bloomington. Along with these material accomplishments, however, we cannot and will not forget the spiritual growth that is instilled in all of us from the moment we enter these portals as freshmen till we leave as seasoned seniors. In the past 20 years these old halls have seen and heard many a tale and trouble of its students. These same students hove gone on to fight in wars, to excel in college and at sports, and to enter into business, all carrying within themselves the light of God with which to set the world on fire. May we, who will graduate this year, find our place in society end 20 years from now may our children look bock at this book and soy, Because of you the world is, indeed, a better place in which to live. Tfte Mnca 1 sUfo i - TH mic , 7t. During the year of 1959, Central Catholic High School lost a teacher, coach and friend, Mr. Ralph Manny. Mr. Manny was an alumnus of C.C. He was impressive as a student and graduated high in the class of 1950. In his athletic career he was above average. He ployed hard and was an asset to the teams he played with. He was a member of the team that holds the school record for track relay in 1950. Mr. Manny was also a member of the all-city football team. He received the Knights of Columbus award as the athlete with the hig h- est average. Upon his graduation he served in the Coast Guard for three years. He then began his college work at Mississippi Southern. He was beginning his career as a teacher-coach at C.C. when God called him. His death was a blow to Central Catholic. The faculty and students will not forget him. Though he was here for such a short time, his friendly smile was a familiar sight to all. Central Catholic has lost a wonderful man and God has gained a precious soul. Mr. Ralph Manny may you rest in peace. 7 %;?4 l cfAenend m- 4. Pu uUetf. Z . T) „ . J . ' D. ipr f ■ II Father Lester, as Christ ' s representative, has b een our leader, advisor and friend through our four year stay at Central Cath- olic. As unexperienced freshmen, we looked to him with owe and o slight feeling of fear. We wondered what the next four years would bring from our new leader. Upon becoming more acquainted with our surroundings and having occasion to transect business in the first floor office, we found our leader to be a true friend, ready with a cheery hello and a helping hand for all C.C. ' ers, Upperclassmen now, and planning for the future, we find more and more opportunities to avail ourselves of Father ' s invaluable advice and guiding wisdom. He bears a heavy burden but he is always ready to help in every way no matter how great or small the need. As we leave C.C. and take the places God has chosen for us in His world, the Class of I960 wishes to thank you. Father, for your untiring guidance, Christ-Like devotion and sincere interest This greeting, spoke friendly oy that is Elaine ' s alone, couldn ' t gip but brighten the day for anyone ailing the first floor office.
