Sister Lucy, to whom the Secret was given by Our Lady of Fatima some 40 years ago, said: When the Secret is revealed in 1960— some will be glad, but many will be sad. His Excellency THE MOST REV. JOHN L. PASCHANG BISHOP OF GRAND ISLAND RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR LEO KEATING Pastor of St. Mary ' s Cathedral and Vicar General of the Diocese RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR ANTHONY EGGING Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish and Diocesan Superintendent of Schools Administration REVEREND JAMES NAUGHTIN Superintendent Graduates of 1960: 1960! Does that number bring anxiety and wonder to your hearts? You are completing your high school in the most talked-about year in the last century. I am sure that 1960 brings many thoughts to your minds- world peace, conversion of Russia, Mary ' s apparition to the children of Fatima, an unopened letter containing a message undoubtedly to have an impact on your future lives. The general comment of American people is: We are now entering the Golden Sixties . Bear in mind, Graduates of 1960, that Gold is purified by fire. Perhaps it is in the Will of God that our nation, of which you are a part, needs and will receive that pur- ification. In the midst of the wonderful promises given by Mary at Fatima, were a few conditions to be fulfilled on our part. Remember: Offend Our Lord no more . . . say your Rosary daily and say it with de- votion. You alone now can determine how faithfully you have fulfilled these donditions; you alone now can determine the solidarity of your resolutions for the future; you alone with God ' s Grace and the Virgin of Fatima ' s help, can aid in bringing to completion the Fatima promise of World Peace. God grant that none may shirk this great responsibility! and Faculty SISTER THEODORE, O.P. Principal Latin . ,«w rHftlST THE KING STRONG- FOLLOW CHRIS SISTER VINCENT DE PAUL, C.S.J. The Lance Staff The school paper, The Lance, was published by the staff pictured above. Sodality The Sodality is the core of the spiritual life at Central. It strives to help its members to draw closer to Jesus and Mary. The members, in turn, try to instill in all students a deeper realization of spiritual values. Unit meetings and daily practices of the spiritual and corporal works keep the Sodality spirit alive. Sea- sonal projects such as the Advent Wreath, the Clothing Drive and Thanksgiving Baskets are also Sod- ality projects. Sodality Officers Prefect, Betty Assendrop Vice-prefect, Mary Hamik Vice-prefect, Frank McNeils Secretary, Ben Wassinger Treasurer, Janet Greene Ten Sodahsts from Central attended the Rocky Mountain National Youth Congress at Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were Kit Lofholm, Robert Rosno, Janet Greene, Ben Wassinger, Bonnie Kucera, Francis Mc- Nelis, Joan Easley, Frank Whitney, Betty Assendrop, and Mary Hamik. May Queen of 1960 In behalf of the entire student body Mary Hamik, May Queen, placed a crown of roses on the statue of the Blessed Mother, as a tribute of love and gratitude, at the May Crowning ceremonies. It was a three day period of taking inventory of oneself. In stimulating conferences Father Hawke inspired a deeper love of God and a greater awareness of how real Catholic teenagers should live. You arc alone with God during this reatrcat. God is not mocked. There is an eternity — forever, forever, warned Father Hawke. We are gratefully indebted to Fr. Bernard Hawke who conducted our re- treat. He helped make it a memorable and successful one. Retreat Group The non-fiction shelves arc ransacked for good spiritual reading books during retreat. 45 GIRLS ' STATE DELEGATE Lynn Filip represented Central Catholic High School in Grand Island at Corn- husker Girls ' State at Lincoln in June.
