' , Sister Maria, O.P., Sister Joseph Maria, C.S.J. SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH, C. S. J. June 16, 1958 commemorated the 7?th anni ' versary of the Foundation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in the State of Kansas. In 1883 six 2,ealous Sisters, under the super- iorship of Mother Stanislaus Leary, traveled from their Motherhouse in Rochester, New York, to open a new mission field on the Kan- sas frontier. Today the Congregation numbers some 600. Reverend Mother Helena is the present Mother General at Nazareth Motherhouse, Concordia, Kansas. The work of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Con ' cordia now extends into six states and into eleven Archdioceses and Dioceses of the Catho- lic Church. The Sisters staff 25 elementary schools, 10 high schools and one senior college — Marymount College, SaUna, Kansas. In addition to these schools the Sisters of St. Joseph also conduct 7 hospitals, a home for the aged, and a diocesan charity center for social service work. SISTERS OF ST. DOMINIC, O. P. The first American community of Dominican Sisters in the United States was formed in 1822 by a small group ot young girls near Springfield, Kentucky. The infant community was guided and directed by Father Wilson, O. P., assisted by Father Miles, who later became the first Bishop of Tennessee. Mother Angela Sansbury was the first Mother General. Mother Mary Juha, O. P., is the present Mother General. From the Motherhouse at St. Catharine, Kentucky, she directs the apostolic work of her sisters in southern, eastern, and middle western states, as well as Puerto Rico. In Nebraska the Dominican Sisters staff schools in Omaha, Bellevue, Lincoln, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, McCook, Ogallala, Greeley, Spalding, and Cedar Rapids, and hos- pitals in McCook and Spalding.

Faculty As the Mans Stella sails on the seas, her course is steered by the captains — the Faculty. In order to avoid any shipwrecks, they sail out under the banner of Mary, Star of the Sea. As we seniors bid farewell to our teachers, classmates, and fnends we breathe a prayer of thanks for the happy, profitable years spent at Central Catholic High under the guidance of the Faculty. Pope Honors Our Clergy His Holiness, Pope John XXIII, has bestowed Papal honors on Reverend Anthony Egging and Reverend Carl Hayden. Named Domestic Prelate with the title Right Reverend Monsignor is Father Anthony Egging, pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Parish and Diocesan Superintendent of schools. Father Carl Hayden, Chancellor of the diocese and instructor at Central Catholic High, is named a Papal Chamberlain with the title Very Reverend Monsignor.
